Erling Haaland Slams Club as Contracts Terminated

The Manchester City striker called out his former club in a social media rant.

Erling Haaland did not hold back with his assessment of his former club, Bryne FK, in a social media rant.

Haaland, 25, was born in Leeds while his father, Alf-Inge, was playing for Leeds United in the Premier League before the family moved back to Norway when Erling was a toddler.

His footballing journey began with Bryne, as Haaland joined the club’s academy at the age of five. The striker was quick to impress and made his senior debut for the side at the age of 15 before moving to Molde FK in 2017.

In 2022, a mural was unveiled in Haaland’s hometown, and it’s fair to say he is the area’s most famous export.

A year later, Haaland even offered to pay for a group of fans to attend the team’s playoff game. According to Reuters, the 25-year-old paid for around 200 fans, covering costs worth around NOK 175,000 (£12,000).

But now, Haaland has spoken out against the side after they terminated three players’ contracts without an explanation.

The club, who currently sit 14th out of 16 teams in Norway’s Eliteserien, released a statement on Tuesday (September 2), confirming the departure of three players.

“We have agreed to terminate the contracts with Axel Kryger, Jens Husebø and Robert Undheim,” read the statement.

“We thank them for their efforts in red and white and wish them continued success.”

The reason for the decision is still unclear.

Following the news, Haaland posted on Snapchat and was clearly unhappy with his former club.

Haaland wrote on Snapchat: “Speak out, Bryne FK. What the hell is going on?”

A follower then asked Haaland whether he should be sleeping, to which he replied: “Yes, I should, but there is chaos at my home club, and it makes me angry, so now I can't sleep.”

Norwegian outlet NRK have since reported that they have been in contact with Undheim, who does not wish to comment, although he did write “But never doubt that I love Bryne FK”.

Kryger also spoke but did not explain why the decision had been made.

“We chose to go our separate ways,” Kryger wrote. “That's how it had to be, and both the club and I agreed on that. I wish Bryne all the best and have had a great time there. It ended badly, but that's how it is sometimes.”
