Man Utd legend's son switches international allegiance TWICE after playing for England

Man Utd legend's son switches international allegiance TWICE after playing for England

He could follow in his father's footsteps.

Darren Fletcher's son Tyler has changed his international allegiance once again after representing England.

The 16-year-old midfielder joined Manchester United's academy from local rivals Manchester City in August, and has represented both Scotland and England at under-16 level since making his international debut last year.

After helping England win the Montaigu Tournament last April, Tyler appears to be favouring a career with The Tartan Army after playing for their U17s against Belarus in a Euros qualifier on Saturday.

Tyler's twin brother, Jack, could follow in his footsteps, having also represented both England and Scotland at U16 level, though didn't feature against Belarus.

The pair even lined up against each other back in March, when Tyler was on the receiving end of a 3-0 friendly defeat to the Young Lions.

Jack, who was also part of England's winning Montaigu Tournament squad, still has plenty of time to make his decision, with several players switching their allegiance once they reach senior level.

However, it is no surprise that the pair are considering representing Scotland, having seen their dad captain the side and amass 80 appearances.

Tyler and Jack were born while Darren was still playing for United. The midfielder played 342 times for the Red Devils and won an impressive 13 trophies - including five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.

Darren now works as the club's technical director and was delighted to persuade both Tyler and Jack to move from the blue half to the red half of Manchester over the summer, with the club forking out around £1.25 million of the duo.

It is not unusual for ex Manchester United players' sons to join their local rivals, with Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Andy Cole having all previously chosen to place their kids at City.

Fellow United midfielder Scott McTominay may serve as inspiration, who despite being born in Lancaster, has become one of Scotland's most important players in recent years.

"I wanted to play for Scotland, and I always have done, since I was a young boy, so it was an incredibly proud moment when he [then Scotland manager Alex McLeish] did call me up," said McTominay in 2018 when he received his first call up aged 21.
