Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has made his feelings clear regarding Mohamed Salah’s no-holds-barred Instagram post.
Mohamed Salah gave fans an insight into the why behind Liverpool’s tragic fall from grace with a brutal Instagram post earlier today.
The Reds, who were crowned Premier League champions in 2024/25 largely thanks to the astounding impact of Golden Boot, Playmaker Award and PFA Players’ Player of the Year-winning Salah, have endured a historically poor season under Arne Slot.
The Dutchman has led Liverpool to a record-breaking 20 losses this campaign — the most in a single season by any Reds manager this millennium — and a string of controversies along the way.

Steven Gerrard, who played under the previous manager, Rafa Benitez, to hold the losses record, has offered a bleak verdict in response to Salah’s Instagram post, which appears to be a dig at Slot.
The Egyptian King was benched by the ailing Liverpool boss in December, leading to a fiery interview which almost spelled the end of the superstar’s reign on Anfield, causing Gerrard to visit Salah’s home and discuss the situation with him.
Salah’s message is damning and pointed, believes Gerrard
Speaking to TNT Sports, Gerrard offered a bleak message for Liverpool supporters hoping that Salah’s message read less as proof of an internal civil war and more as a call to action.
The retired Liverpool legend said: “I'm surprised [by] the timing… that is quite damning to the Liverpool manager and the staff in terms of where this team's at. That's my opinion on that.
“Is he speaking off his own back for the sake of everyone else in the dressing room? I think that he's sending a message to the outside that things in [the] Liverpool dressing room are not right. The identity's gone and it's really hurting him to see it in front of his own eyes,” he continued.
Gerrard, whose son idolises Salah and has helped to develop a friendship between the two Liverpool legends, self-confessed to visiting the Egyptian’s house during December’s debacle.
After Salah told reporters that he had invited his mother to his final Premier League game before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations, because he was unsure as to whether he would ever wear Liverpool red again, it was Gerrard who talked him out of a back-door Anfield exit over dinner.
The Egyptian forward, who tallied a record-breaking 47 goal involvements in 38 Premier League games to win Liverpool their 20th top-flight title, has been integral to the Reds’ limited success this campaign, despite a dramatic drop-off in form.
Liverpool have won 61% of their matches with Mohamed Salah in the starting XI this season, 20 out of 33, compared to just 35% without him in it, 8 out of 23.
The winger has recorded 12 goals and nine assists in 38 games for the Reds this campaign, the third most goal involvements in the squad despite recurrent benchings and his time with Egypt during their AFCON semi-final run.
Gerrard, who is tied with Salah on 92 assists as Liverpool’s two greatest playmakers in the Premier League era, offered stark words regarding his boyhood club’s recent performances.
The 45-year-old said: The pressure's on the players and the pressure's on the manager because it's been nowhere near good enough. The performance last night was terrible, it was awful… it hurt me watching Liverpool last night. I don't normally say that."
Gerrard is not alone in the feelings he shares with Salah regarding Liverpool’s form, as evidenced by a growing list of Reds players liking and commenting on the Egyptian’s Instagram post.
The winger returns to Premier League action next Sunday in his final game for Liverpool, against Brentford at Anfield as he looks to keep his promise to fans in making sure that Anfield hosts Champions League football next season.
