Liverpool fans are convinced that Adam Wharton will make an Anfield arrival this summer after spotting his recent Instagram story activity.

New boss Andoni Iraola has a mountain to climb out of the hole that Arne Slot dug for Liverpool in his second, and final, season at the helm.

The Dutchman, led by the astonishing efforts of also-departed veteran Mohamed Salah, won the 2024-25 Premier League title, dethroning Manchester City in their efforts to five-peat.

The Crystal Palace midfielder has long been rumoured to exit the South London club, following in the footsteps of Michael Olise, who received his high-profile transfer to Bayern Munich in 2024.

Wharton, already a Premier League star, is expected to rank among the world’s best midfielders in a more competitive side; links to Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United make it more likely than not that he will remain in England.

Yesterday afternoon, the 22-year-old posted an image of a vintage Steven Gerrard shirt that he won on eBay, paired with the caption: ‘Another grail piece added to the collection.’

The shirt references Liverpool’s 2005 Champions League victory against AC Milan in Istanbul, widely regarded as one of the greatest victories in football history, and is signed by Gerrard.

While the post was a paid partnership with eBay, many Liverpool fans have already taken it as a veiled message about the Palace man’s destination priorities.

Wharton has been an integral player in the South London club’s recent trophy-winning ways: lifting Conference League and Community Shield silverware last season, and the FA Cup the year prior.

In the Premier League, the 22-year-old ranked joint sixth with Liverpool man Dominik Szoboszlai for ‘Big Chances Created’ in 2025-26, with 14 each.

The Reds finished the season in fifth position, narrowly securing Champions League football, while Palace ended in 15th and bagged Europa by virtue of their Conference League success.

In terms of outgoings, the Merseyside club lost Salah, veteran full-back Andrew Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur, centre-back Ibrahima Konate to Real Madrid, and are also rumoured to have narrowly avoided the loss of Alisson Becker to Juventus.

All three players left on free transfers; shot-stopper Vitezslav Jaros has also returned from loan at Ajax as back-up to Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili.
