A frontrunner has emerged to sign Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton with just one week of the transfer window remaining.
Palace supporters may be fearing the worst after then-captain Marc Guehi left for Manchester City earlier in the window, while head coach Oliver Glasner announced his desire to leave at the end of the 2025/26 campaign earlier in January.
Meanwhile, striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has also reportedly told the club he wants to depart as the France international continues to attract interest from both Premier League and European clubs.
Another valuable player to the Eagles is Wharton, who also appears to be on the radar of Premier League clubs.

The England international, who boasts three caps for his country, has impressed since arriving at Selhurst Park from boyhood club Blackburn Rovers in 2022.

The 21-year-old midfielder is a fixture in Glasner’s side and would be a huge miss if he were to leave in January.
Wharton, who is contracted to Palace until 2029, and as per the MEN, valued at around £60-70 million by the south London club, has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United as they look to replace the departing Casemiro next summer.
And a summer move would likely suit both Palace and the club Wharton joins more than a January switch.
However, according to reports, the youngster could complete a shock transfer in the coming days.
As reported by journalist Nicolo Schira, the midfielder is “getting closer” to joining Premier League champions Liverpool and has supposedly “given his availability” to join the Merseyside club on a five-year contract.
Another report from the Mail claims that Liverpool are keen on bringing Wharton to the club, with an £80 million fee floated, although they will likely face competition from other clubs for the player’s signature, including rivals United.
A move back to northwest England would likely suit the player, as he was born and raised within an hour’s drive of both Manchester and Liverpool.
And with Palace’s star players - such as Guehi and Ebere Eze - having already moved on in recent times, while others are linked with departures, now could be the perfect time for Wharton to take the next step in his career.
The winter transfer window is set to close on Monday, February 2.
