Newcastle United released a brutal statement following Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day.
Isak, 25, finally joined Liverpool in a British record deal worth £125m on Monday and signed a six-year contract after a summer-long transfer saga which resulted in the Swede being excluded from Newcastle’s squad for the pre-season tour of Asia and the first three Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Liverpool and Leeds United.
This comes after the 25-year-old earlier accused Newcastle of breaking promises, which led to his desire to leave the club.
"The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time,” Isak wrote on Instagram in August.

“To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.
"When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now - and why change is in the best interest of everyone, not just myself."
Despite Isak’s claims, the Northeast club explained that “no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer” in a counterstatement.

But on deadline day (September 1), the Sweden striker completed a move to Premier League champions Liverpool, leaving Newcastle having scored 62 times in 109 appearances since arriving from Real Sociedad in 2022.
Arguably, his most important contribution while at Newcastle was his strike in last season’s Carabao Cup final victory over the Reds, which helped secure the Magpies’ first major trophy since 1955.
Following the League Cup triumph, Isak and the rest of the Newcastle squad were lauded by the club’s fans, but it’s fair to say the Sweden international may not have many well-wishers on Tyneside following his recent behaviour.
Often when a player leaves, clubs subsequently release a statement and depending on what the individual has achieved, it can be warm and detail their achievements during their time before wishing them well in their future endeavours.

However, Newcastle’s official statement was anything but warm.
The Magpies’ statement read: “Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee.
“The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.”

Compare this to their statement confirming the loan of an 18-year-old winger, Travan Sanusi, to FC Lorient, during which Newcastle explained how “Everyone at the club wishes Trevan well for his time on loan at the Stade du Moustoir”, and there’s a stark contrast in tone.
