Journalist fires back at Gary Lineker and tells him 'to look at the BBC website' over Mo Salah post

Gary Lineker told to look at the BBC website.

A journalist has fired back at Gary Lineker over his post on social media about Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool are currently without star player Salah, who is on international duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

He's one of the best players at the tournament alongside the likes of former Reds hero Sadio Mane and ex-Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

Not to mention Victor Osimhen, who has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League following his goal-scoring exploits at Napoli.

Ahead of AFCON, reporter Simon Hughes wrote a piece on Nigeria, stating they boast the 'continent's best player' in Osimhen.

To which Lineker replied: "Great though he is, I fear you have forgotten a certain @MoSalah."

Hughes responded to Lineker's post as he referenced a BBC article detailing Osimhen winning the 2023 African Footballer of the Year award.

"I fear you haven’t looked at the BBC website," he replied.

Osimhen's Nigeria begin their AFCON campaign today against fellow big hitters Ivory Coast in a huge showdown.

The 25-year-old heads into the tournament having scored eight goals in all competitions for Napoli this season.

He continues to be linked with a switch away from Italy but insists he's 'happy' at the club.

"I am happy with the president. I have a good relationship with him, I cannot lie, I have a seriously good relationship with him," he said.

"He has been with me since I signed for the club in 2020.

"I have a good relationship with his family also. For me, it is always important to make sure there is nothing wrong, regardless of what has happened, with the relationship with him and his family.

"He has been the kind of president that has been supportive of me outside the pitch and of course I give my all trying to win the Scudetto for them.

"It’s always important to have this sort of relationship, to be happy with the individual and the owner of the club."

Osimhen, however, refused to rule out a move to England.

Asked about a transfer to the Premier League, he added: "Of course one day, definitely.

"But for now I have other plans in my career that I am looking forward to. When the time comes, everyone will know."
