Fans are only just realising how much Bayern Munich paid Chelsea to sign Jamal Musiala.

Scotland were humbled 5-1 by a classy Germany in their opening fixture of Euro 2024 in Munich.

Florian Wirtz netted Germany's opener before Musiala rifled home a second and Kai Havertz converted a penalty to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Scotland, who were down to 10 men after Ryan Porteous was shown a straight red in the 44th minute for a crunching challenge on Ilkay Gundogan, then conceded a fourth as Niclas Fullkrug smashed a strike into the top corner.

The Scots netted a consolation through an Antonio Rudiger own-goal before Emre Can made it 5-1 with the last kick of the game to earn Germany the biggest win in an opening match at the Euros.

Musiala, who worked his way through the England youth system before opting to play for Germany, was the star of the Euro opener, dazzling the home crowd with his close control and mazy dribbling.

The 21-year-old Bayern star joined Bayern from Chelsea’s academy at just 16 after the Bavarian giants agreed a compensation package for the youngster worth around £170,000 (€200,000).

The Mail Online claimed that while no buy-back clause was inserted in that 2019 transfer, a sell-on fee worth 20 per cent was included.

Fans on social media were quick to react to the tiny fee Chelsea received, with one person on X writing: “Chelsea has been making mistakes since forever.”

Another added: “Chelsea have proven themselves to be the biggest losers of all time. Classic Chelsea.”

However, a more diplomatic supporter said: “He had a year left and refused to sign a new contract because his family are German and he wanted to go home.” Another wrote: “Context: his family lived in Germany.”
