George Foreman admitted he never wanted a fight with fellow boxing legend Mike Tyson after branding him a "nightmare in the ring."

Tyson, 54, had an illustrious fighting career and went on to become undisputed world heavyweight champion.

And 'Big George' explained to ESPN why he was "scared" of 'Iron Mike' and avoided the chance of setting up a blockbuster boxing match.

"That guy was a nightmare in the ring," the 71-year-old boxing legend said.

"If he missed you with his left, then missed you with his right, he'd bite you.

"I didn't want anything to do with that guy. He was sacred and I was glad of that.

"I didn't want a part of Mike Tyson."

Foreman, who was a two-time world heavyweight champion, went on to slam Tyson's behaviour after he infamously bit Evander Holyfield.

"He was a monster," he said.

"Those are the kind of guys you see in a nightmare.

"You want to wake up and say, 'So glad that's a dream.'"

"I didn't want any part of Mike Tyson -- no way."

Tyson fought in 58 professional bouts and notched up an incredible 50 wins, with 44 of those coming by way of knockout.

The 'Baddest Man on the Planet' became the youngest boxer in history to capture a heavyweight title after he defeated Trevor Berbick in 1986 at the age of 20.

He has since returned to the ring for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr.

And 'Big George' praised legendary trainer Cus D'Amato for making Tyson such an incredible force inside the squared circle.

He said: "I could really punch. I was an expert at punching downwards.

"My manager would hold a bag down there, so I learned how to punch guys lower down.

"But Tyson was very smart. And with coach Cus D'Amato, they were a smart team."

Tyson sat down with Holyfield on Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson last year to talk about his infamous ear bite in their 1997 fight.

A Twitter user also created a now-viral thread that extensively spotlighted the boxing legend's 'phenomenal pro career' moments.
