Boxing fans spot the exact moment Moses Itauma 'knew' he would lose fight vs Filip Hrgovic

Filip Hrgovic has rocked Moses Itauma's unbeaten record by beating the rising British star to be crowned IBF World Champion.

Coming into the bout, Itauma was a hot favourite with an unbeaten record stretching 14 fights long and winning the last ten of those by knockout before the sixth round.

Having been placed in the highest esteem by fellow boxing icons, such as Prince Naseem Hamed, who claimed that his trajectory is higher than anything that British boxing has ever seen (adding that he will surpass Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury).

Yet it was the established Croatian who left the O2 Arena stunned with a ninth-round TKO to win the vacant heavyweight title.

Hrgovic was hailed for his titan chin and resilience by Tony Bellew following the fight, having survived an onslaught from Itauma in the opening few rounds and came into his own in the latter rounds, proving to have superior stamina and power to get the knockout.

The turning point in the fight has now been spotted by fans on social media, with one specific exchange highlighted.

Having come flying out of the blocks in the opening few rounds, Itauma looked to be the real deal and living up to the pre-fight hype that had surrounded him.

But Hrgovic's pain barrier kept him on his feet round after round, even when he got caught flush with an uppercut to the chin that would have knocked other opponents to the floor.

The blow has now been highlighted on X (Twitter) as the moment where the tide turned, knowing that anyone who can withstand that shot will be impossible to knock down.

"Crazy. That punch knocks out anyone else on earth," one person said in the replies.

Another added, "When Hrgovic took this punch like nothing I knew Moses was in deep trouble."

From this point on, Itauma continued to try and throw big punches and soon ran out of steam, while Hrgovic grew stronger. After taking some heavy blows in toe-to-toe exchanges, the Brit was left swaying on his feet in the ninth round before his corner threw in the towel.

Itauma's corner has been criticised for the naive game plan deployed in the fight, with the young Brit thinking that he could leave the arena with a knockout in the opening rounds and not preparing for a longer onslaught.

Speaking to TalkSPORT earlier this week, he even claimed that he's never even practiced a full 12 rounds in the gym, backing himself to have more in the tank than the experienced Croatian.

"If I'm being completely honest, I don't know if I've done a 12-round spar. I might have but I wouldn't recall," he said.

"There's no need to be in the ring longer than you need to be. Whether I knock Filip Hrgovic out in the 1st or the last, I'm still going to get paid the same."

Trainer Ben Davinson (previously of the Tyson Fury camp) has been the target of some of the criticism, with fans saying that he should have slowed the fighter down and allowed his clear technical advantage to shine over a longer period, rather than going flat out and running into a wall.
