Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua venue update drops and it's a major u-turn

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua could reportedly take place in the United Kingdom after a lengthy and bitter dispute over the venue.

The Battle of Britain fight was signed earlier this year after Joshua accepted a challenge from the Gypsy King. According to respected boxing reporter Dan Rafael, there is now a "strong chance" Cardiff's Principality Stadium will stage the blockbuster bout on November 28.

Promoter Eddie Hearn and the Joshua camp had pushed for the fight to be held in the UK and identified Wembley Stadium as their preferred option, while Netflix and Turki Alalshikh favoured New York's Madison Square Garden.

Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua could take place in Wales after major U-turn

Netflix and fightmaker Turki Alalshikh wanted the match to take place at Madison Square Garden. Frank Warren, Fury's promoter, had set a deadline for Joshua's team to sign up to fight in the United States, but the boxing world is still waiting for a venue to be set.

But journalist Dan Rafael claims that sources have informed him that progress has been made after months of talks and more than a little bad blood.

"Per sources involved, there is a strong chance [Fury vs Joshua] will indeed take place in the UK at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, on Nov. 28," Rafael posted on social media.

"Asked if Netflix was now OK with the move one source said, 'I think they’re OK.' Whatever happens [I] was told it would be resolved next couple of days."

Netflix's apparent willingness to accept the switch is significant given its previous preference for New York and makes Cardiff a genuine possibility.

Previously known as the Millennium Stadium, the Principality has a capacity of 80,000 and comes with the added bonus of a retractable roof to guard against the elements.

The Fury vs Joshua venue dispute turned ugly

There's every reason to expect a fight between these two compatriots to be a ferocious affair regardless of their advancing years and the fact that both have been accused of being past their prime.

Fury ramped up the animosity with a rant about the venue friction and Joshua's supposed role in tapping the brakes.

"Joshua, where are you?" he said in video on Instagram Stories.

"Still no deal done. It’s getting quite tiring. I’ve been down to fight every location that’s been mentioned. England, Ireland, Vegas, New York, back to England, back to Ireland, back to New York.

"Listen, I’ve said, ‘Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep,’ every single time. Zero stipulations.

"The facts are I feel like you’re being a coward. I feel like you don’t want the fight and you’re just conning everybody. I feel like you’ve been doing that for years.

"You’ve had many opportunities to fight me, but deep down you never really wanted it. So let’s see if you’re going to man up the final time.

"We’re both f***ing 37, 38 years old. Let’s f***ing fight, it’s a boxing match.

"You’ve been banjo’d before plenty of times. You’ve been knocked spark out a few times, so what? What’s the worst that can happen?

"I’m going to f***ing chin you, 100 percent, but it’s nothing that hasn’t been done before."
