Transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein revealed daily screen times and it needs to be seen to be believed

Deadline day is one of the busiest days of the year for journalists like Romano and Ornstein, and their screen time shows it.

Transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein previously revealed the amount of time they spend on their phones, and it's quite something.

Romano, 32, alongside Ornstein, is one of the most well-informed journalists who covers football.

The Italian is constantly updating fans on the latest news and specialises in transfers.

So, come transfer deadline day, his phone is, no doubt, ringing off the hook.

But his success did not come overnight.

“I was 16 or 17 when I began writing on some small websites in Italy about football,” Romano told FourFourTwo in 2023.

“I work 20 hours a day, every day, on transfers, and I feel really lucky – this is not hard work.

“It’s hard in terms of time, but this is a dream job. I’m working in football."

He added: “Honestly, to see those numbers in terms of followers – people following my news every single day – feels strange. It is a surprise when people stop me in the street and ask for pictures or videos. In some moments, people love you; in others, they’re not so happy with you. It’s part of my job.”

In July of 2023, Romano responded to a tweet and revealed exactly how much time he had spent on his phone that day.

Romano spent 17 hours and 37 minutes on his phone on July 5, 2023.

So, how much time does his colleague Ornstein spend on his phone?

Speaking to Joe Thomlinson in the summer of 2024, he said: "Screen time throughout this [transfer] window was actually showing a reduction... that reflects how quiet the window was, maybe."

A graphic then showed his screen time at an average of 13 hours.

The Athletic journalist also opened up about how hard he works when speaking at the Sports Journalists' Association award evening in 2024, Ornstein said: "I’ve worked so hard, ferociously, day in and day out throughout my career.

“I’ve tried to do things the right way, properly, and conduct myself to the best of my abilities, and learn from so many people at so many different organisations, including my latest at The Athletic.

"I’m a grafter, I’ve never been given a leg-up, a step up, a privilege."
