Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has claimed that there were “only ever two reasons” why Sir Alex Ferguson would summon one of his players to his office.

Ferguson etched his name in the history books after a remarkable managerial career at United, with the legendary Scotsman announcing his retirement in 2013.

The 81-year-old United legend lifted a whopping 13 Premier League titles, five Champions Leagues and five FA Cups during his legendary 26-year reign.

Ferguson was recently announced as an inductee into the Premier League Hall of Fame alongside legendary former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Ferdinand was brought to Old Trafford by Ferguson for a then-British-record fee of £30m from United’s rivals Leeds in 2002.

The 44-year-old former United defender hoovered up major silverware under Ferguson, with Ferdinand lifting six Premier League titles, a Champions League and two FA Cups.

Following on from Ferguson’s induction into the Premier League Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Ferdinand revealed he was “called a few times to his office” during his spell at Old Trafford.

The BT Sport pundit added that Ferguson would only request an audience with one of his former players for two reasons, which would result in getting the “hairdryer or a nice warm hello.”

“There were only ever two reasons why he called you into his office,” Ferdinand said, as per The Daily Mirror.

“If he was trying to run something by you: ‘What do you think of this? I’m thinking about this.’

“[The] second reason would always be because you are in a heap of trouble. I got called a few times to his office, but it wasn’t a nice walk.

“It was like when you were a kid and your dad used to call you and you knew you were bang in trouble. You’ve been suspended or a report had been sent home.

“I used to think, ‘Oh my God, my dad’s going to kill me.’ That’s the feeling you used to get when you used to go up to his office; I was a nervous wreck. You would either get the hairdryer or a nice warm hello.”
