'I'll do a deal' - Declan Rice makes special promise if Arsenal retain Premier League title

Declan Rice has agreed to make a drastic change to his appearance if Arsenal retain the Premier League title his season.

Rice played a starring role in Arsenal's first Premier League triumph for 22 years and was a leading contender for the PFA Player of the Year award, won by Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes.

Arsenal won the Premier League for the fourth time last season as Mikel Arteta led the North London giants to a 14th league title overall.

The Gunners are hoping to retain the title for the first time since the 1930s and Rice has raised the stakes should his team win consecutive Premier Leagues.

The England international has pledged to dye his hair red if Arsenal become the first team to win back-to-back titles since Manchester City in 2024.

In a segment for the club's social channel, Rice was quizzed by a number of young fans.

One young girl asked him if Arsenal won the league again, would he dye his hair whatever she told him too.

Rice smiled and said, "Wow!" and then asked the girl, "What colour are you thinking?".

She then informed him that she meant red and white. Rice was a little unsure but when made a compromise, telling the youngster: “I’ll do a deal with you, I’ll get red highlights in them".

Arsenal, who strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa and Christos Tzolis, won their first two games of the season against Coventry City and Aston Villa after beating title rivals City to win the Community Shield.

If Arsenal do get over the line again and Rice keeps his word, fans could be seeing the return of a classic look.

Former Arsenal forward Freddie Ljungberg famously dyed his hair red when playing for the club and it only led to fans loving him even more.

The red stripe in his hair is synonymous with the club's 2001/02 Premier League and FA Cup double-winning campaign and the appearance brought the chant, "We love you Freddie, because you've got red hair!"

Ljungberg, who played 325 times for Arsenal and later had coaching roles, looked like a singer in a punk rock band during his prime.

But he stressed that he had been dying his hair since he was a teenager and saw it as a part of his personality.

"I don't dress like this and dye my hair to attract attention, "Ljungberg stated.

"I don't do it to make people look at me in the street or on the pitch. I do it for me. It's a personality statement. I've been dying my hair ever since I was a 14-year-old kid in Sweden. It's just something I do."
