Paul Merson has predicted both Leicester and Everton to stay up despite the fact it can't happen

The ex-England international believes that both Everton and Leicester City can play in the Premier League next season.

Eagle-eyed fans have called out ex-England international Paul Merson for making a serious error in his latest Premier League predictions column.

In his latest piece for Sportskeeda, the 55-year-old wrote down his thoughts on the scorelines he expects to see in the domestic season finale.

However, fans have been quick to spot that the former Arsenal man has made a few blunders.

In the column, he said that he believes that relegation-threatened Everton will beat Bournemouth 2-0 and secure their place in the top flight of English football next season.

However, Merson also wrote that Leicester City would defeat West Ham 3-1 and that they too would avoid relegation to the Championship.

Of course, it is mathematically impossible for both the Toffees and the Foxes to remain in the Premier League next season, as one of the two will officially be relegated after this weekend.

Elsewhere in the story, the recent Leicester City vs Newcastle United scoreline was printed incorrectly. He was quoted as saying that it was a 1-1 draw, but it was in fact 0-0 at St. James’ Park.

After the column was shared on Twitter, users have been quick to respond to the former footballer on his mistakes.

One account that drew attention to the blunder wrote: “Paul Merson here, expecting both Everton and Leicester to win their games and stay up, even though it’s mathematically impossible.”

Another said: “I am also puzzled by the many claiming Bournemouth have nothing to play for. The 3 points they could gain could lift them two Premier League places, and that's a fair few million quid in the coffers. They won't be enjoying the sunshine.”

A third wrote: "Good news everyone! Paul thinks us and Everton will both stay up! Thank god for that, I was starting to get worried.”

Elsewhere, another fan gave their own predictions for the weekend. They wrote: “I thought Leicester drew 0-0 at Newcastle My feeling is they will stay up by beating the Hammers. I reckon Bournemouth are being under-rated and with no DCL, don't see Everton beating them.”

Going into the final weekend of the 2022/23 season, Sean Dyche’s side sit in 17th place with 33 points while Leicester have 31.

A win over the Cherries at Goodison Park will keep the Merseyside team in the domestic league for another year.

Elsewhere, the Foxes need Bournemouth to get a result at Everton and they themselves need to defeat the Irons to stay in the Premier League.

It’s going down to the wire but unlike the ex-forward believes, either Everton or Leicester will definitely be relegated this weekend.
