Solskjaer, who played under the often ruthless and relenting management style of Ferguson during his 11 year stint at Old Trafford, retired at the end of the 2007/08 season.
Shortly after hanging up his boots, Sir Alex allowed him to coach the club's forwards when he was doing his coaching badges.
And following one of the sessions. Norwegian publication TV2 wanted to know how Solskjaer was performing in his new role.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was quickly becoming one of the world's most talked about players, gave his honest views on Solskjaer while Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand also spoke about their former teammate.
"He's very good," Ronaldo said. "I look for Ole like a man, not just coach now. He's a fantastic guy and I have a great relationship with him."
Ferdinand, who initially cracked a joke about the Norwegian, was also complimentary.
"I'm sure he'll go on to become a top coach as well because he has great ideas about the game and he's working very hard at Carrington."
"I'm sure he will one day become a manager and become a good one." the former England international said.
It was clear even back then that Solskjaer would not take any nonsense based on a session with Molde.
But in a chat with Gazzetta dello Sport in 2018, Solskjaer revealed that a certain Cristiano Ronaldo was the one player who got away with something.
"He [Ronaldo] was the only one who Sir Alex said: 'OK, only worry about attacking, do not think about defending.'
"Neither Giggs nor Beckham nor Cantona were ever told this."
The Norwegian helped the club achieve Champions League football this season after a third placed finish in 2019/20 but despite some success, the club's recent Premier League will be a cause for concern.
That being said, Solskjaer's coaching style is clearly up to speed, according to some of his former teammates
