Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has insisted that he has very rarely asked any footballer for a shirt swap, despite making an omission of that rule for Zinedine Zidane.

The 33-year-old Argentine superstar has previously shown his stunning shirt collection on social media as he posed alongside one of his sons, Thiago Messi Roccuzzo.

According to The Daily Mirror, Messi has claimed that he will usually swap his shirt with a fellow Argentine if he has shared the pitch with them.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner has revealed that he won't ask another player for their shirt, but he did make an exception for French legend Zizou.

Messi told Argentine TV channel TyC Sports: "I don't ask for shirts, I usually swap them, but I asked Zidane once.

"If there is an Argentine I swap it with him, but, unless someone asks me, I'm not asking anyone."

Messi's collection photo backed up his claim as it featured several shirts from Argentines, including Angel Di Maria, Sergio Aguero, Manuel Lanzini and Diego Milito.

But the Barcelona captain has also added shirts from legends like Gianluigi Buffon, Philipp Lahm and Francesco Totti.

One of the more noticeable omissions spotted by eagle-eyed fans was that of Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's shirt.

Messi's 'rules' appeared to loosen in February when he surprisingly asked Elche shot-stopper Edgar Badia for his shirt in Barcelona's 3-0 win.

The Argentina captain turned down a shirt swap with Bayern Munich starlet Alphonso Davies last August.

Davies was keen to secure the Argentine's iconic No 10 Barcelona shirt after Bayern's 8-2 thrashing of the Spanish club in the Champions League.

However, the 20-year-old Canada international believes his request was shot down as Messi was upset with Barcelona's humiliating defeat.

"Yeah, I asked for it, but I think he was a little upset," Davies told BT Sport at the time.

"It's OK, though. Next time, hopefully."
