Manchester United's Scott McTominay Shows Off His War Wounds After Hard-Fought Victory Over Leeds United

Manchester United's Scott McTominay Shows Off His War Wounds After Hard-Fought Victory Over Leeds United

McTominay has described United's 4-2 win at Leeds as a "proper game".

Scott McTominay has showed off his battle scars on social media after helping Manchester United beat rivals Leeds United in a pulsating contest on Sunday.

United strengthened their grip on fourth place and the final Champions League spot with a 4-2 win at Elland Road.

The match was played in difficult conditions, with the pitch becoming drenched at half-time as a result of the stormy weather in north Yorkshire.

It produced a hard-fought contest between the two sides, which was something of a throwback to previous years of Premier League football.

McTominay was in the thick of the action and the United midfielder took to Instagram after the match to express his enjoyment.

He posted a series of images to Instagram, alongside the caption: β€œLeeds away – proper game.”

The post included an image of his left ankle which had been heavily marked by studs.

McTominay was also involved in a sickening clash of heads with Robin Koch early in the match, which left the Leeds defender with a nasty gash above his eyebrow.

Koch initially played on after having his head bandaged up but was forced to change both his shirt and shorts, which were covered in blood.

He was later substituted on the half hour mark after feeling the effects of the challenge, with Junior Firpo coming on to replace him.

McTominay came out of the challenge unscathed and was able to help United to a crucial win away from home.

Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes had given the visitors a 2-0 lead before half-time but two quick-fire goals from Rodrigo and Raphinha levelled the match for Leeds after the break.

United interim manager Ralf Rangnick introduced Fred and Anthony Elanga with around 25 minutes to go and both players would go on to score late on to secure all three points for the away side.

A total of nine yellow cards were handed out by referee Paul Tierney, with McTominay booked for a late challenge on Joel Gelhardt in the 77th minute.

The Scotland international was somewhat fortunate to avoid a red card after making six fouls in the match.

Victory for United sees them move four points clear of fifth-place West Ham in the battle for the final Champions League spot.

Leeds, meanwhile, are now just five points above the relegation places.
