Trabzonspor want to reunite Mo Salah with ex-Liverpool teammate in second wild transfer

A former Liverpool player could be set to join Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor.

Salah is set to join the Super Lig side on a free transfer, having agreed to terminate his Liverpool contract a year early at the end of the 2025/26 season.

The Egyptian will pen a two-year contract in Turkey, with the side potentially facing English opposition in the Europa League next term, but first they must come through the play-offs.

Salah will reportedly earn more than Turkey’s current highest-paid player, Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen, who receives €15 million a year.

As per Bloomberg, the 34-year-old will earn €17 million per year (£14.5million), equal to £280,000 per week, alongside a £4.3 million signing-on bonus.

Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu also reports Salah will receive a 20 per cent cut of all merchandise sales.

Salah was given a hero’s welcome when he arrived in Turkey, with thousands of fans lining the streets of Trabzon to catch a glimpse of the forward.

“25,000 people are here. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen this at an airport, but it’s a great feeling and shows a lot of love,” Salah said about the reception he received.

“I’m really happy about this, and I’m looking forward to training with the team.

“Everywhere I go, I always try to win something. I hope we can do something good in the league and in Europe as well.”

Salah will link up with former Premier League stars John Lundstram, Paul Onuachu and Stefan Savic.

Trabzonspor target former Liverpool star

Meanwhile, reports from Turkish journalist Resat Can Ozbudak suggest Trabzonspor are also interested in Al Hilal forward Darwin Nunez, with whom Salah previously shared a dressing room at Liverpool.

The Uruguayan has struggled to find form in Saudi Arabia since his move from Liverpool in 2025, registering just 24 appearances for the Middle Eastern club.

Nunez has also been linked with Trabzonspor’s Super Lig rivals Besiktas, with the Istanbul club previously engaging in talks with Salah.

Salah and Nunez struck up a close friendship and on-field understanding during their time together at Anfield, playing together 122 times with 18 joint goal participations.

Once Nunez’s move to Saudi was announced last summer, Salah released a heartfelt statement wishing the Uruguayan well.

"I consider myself lucky to have had you as a teammate and friend," the Egyptian wrote.

“You were always very real and brought so much good energy wherever you went.

"You made us laugh and showed heart in everything you did. You will be missed, and I wish you the best in your new club."

Nunez is under contract at Al Hilal until June 2028.
