Fans hail Luke Shaw's "elite mentality" in interview, he's aiming high

Luke Shaw has been talking about ambitions for next season and Manchester United fans like what he has had to say.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has been praised for displaying "elite mentality" in a recent interview discussing goals for next season.

Shaw has been one of the top performers for Erik ten Hag's side this season, playing 45 times in all competitions.

The left-back has even deputised in central defence on occasion as United won a first trophy for six years and push for qualification back into the Champions League next season.

United currently sit in fourth place on 69 points from 36 games, with two final fixtures against Chelsea and Fulham.

They have not yet confirmed Champions League football at Old Trafford next term and require a point from the aforementioned games.

A win and a draw will see United climb above Newcastle into third and achieved automatic Champions League qualification.

But Shaw is already talking as though United will be playing in UEFA's Premier League club competition. Asked about ambitions for next season by Sky Sports, he replied: “Our aim at the beginning of next season has to be winning the Premier League and the Champions League.”

And fans liked what they heard from the England international ahead of Ten Hag's second season at the helm.

One wrote: "At least he’s said what you people want to hear. Standards and mentality it is."

Another simply added: "Elite mentality."

A third called for Shaw to be made captain, writing: "Put the armband on this guy already."

A fourth stated: "Players speaking something like this now. Mentality is changing."

A fifth reacted: "Still a couple of years away but admire the ambition."

A final user weighed in: "Luke Shaw mostly takes responsibility whenever he speaks. The longest serving player at the club at the moment bar Jones and DDG. Has to be in the shout for the vice captain role next season."

United could yet end the season with a second trophy as they play out the FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City at Wembley on 4 June.

The Red Devils have the chance to deny City a historic treble - a feat they achieved back in 1999 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
