The Liverpool legend said he could potentially play left-back or on the left back, but claimed "he cannot play there in the Premier League" in regards to a back four.
Carragher did issue an apology to Martinez on Sky Sports in 2023 and told United supporters they "can stop tweeting" him.
However, when the opportunity to speak to Martinez directly came, Carragher jumped at it and told him: "Lisandro, when you first joined Manchester United I said you were too small to succeed. You've now been here for four or five years, you've completely proven me wrong.. It’s fair to say you’ve grown on me.”
Martinez, who has also come in for criticism from United legends Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, offered a mature response and replied: "That's fine. Sometimes you have to listen to take these comments from you guys and you have to be smart. If you keep thinking about what you are saying, in the end I will be playing bad and thinking bad things you know.
"I'm trying to be focused and giving everything for this club that trusted me from day one."
