Lisandro Martinez gets round of applause from CBS studio for response to 'who is your favourite pundit on the show'

Micah Richards asked Manchester United's Lisandro Martínez to name his favourite member of the CBS Sports punditry team - and his "I like to watch quality players" response is going viral.

United began their Champions League campaign with victory over Azerbaijan Premier League side Sabah on Thursday as goals from Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko and Martinez sealed a 4-0 win.

It was an evening to remember for Martinez, whose effort against Sabah was his first-ever goal at Old Trafford.

After the full-time whistle, the Argentine was in great spirits. In fact, during his post-match interview with CBS, he gave an entertaining response when Micah Richards asked his trademark "who is your favourite on the show" question.

It didn't take long for Martinez to reveal his admiration for former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, a reply that didn't go down well with Richards and Jamie Carragher, with the latter saying: "What about us defenders?"

Without much hesitation, Martinez responded by saying: "I like to watch quality players."

In the interview, Richards also asked Martinez if he used to watch Carragher and what he thought of the former Liverpool defender, who has been one of Martinez's most vocal critics in the past.

The Argentine once again left the studio in stitches, replying: "As a player? Good person."

Initially, an unconvinced Carragher was critical of United's £56.7 million move for Martinez.

Speaking after United had lost their first two games of the Premier League season against Brighton and Brentford in 2022, Carragher questioned whether the defender would be able to play in a back four because of his relatively short height, 5ft 9in.

“We should never judge managers or players too early, but I'm convinced this can't work because the size of him playing in a back four," Carragher said on Sky Sports.

"Maybe he could go left-back, maybe he could play in a back three, but in a back four, he cannot play there in the Premier League."

Martinez would go on to become one of United's standout performers across the season, and in May 2023, Carragher issued an apology on Sky for his previous comments.

“He (Martinez) is a warrior and a leader," said Carragher. "He and Casemiro are the two new signings who have transformed Man Utd. So apologies to Lisandro Martinez and Man United fans, you can stop tweeting me now about it."
