Jadon Sancho got a pep talk from Luke Shaw moments before he smashed home his penalty as he put the Euro 2020 demons to bed.

Sancho exorcised some demons following his heartbreak with England against Italy at Wembley Stadium in the Euro 2020 final.

He emphatically scored his side's third spot-kick during their penalty shootout against Brighton on Sunday in the same venue as his miss for the Three Lions.

The 23-year-old, who was subjected to vile racist abuse after missing his effort back in the summer of 2021, was reassured by Shaw, who spoke to him moments before he took his penalty.

"I was next to Jadon," the Man United left-back revealed. "I said, 'Whatever happens happens, just be confident. It's part of football, things happen, these things happen.'

"And I think maybe what was playing on their minds, are the things that come with it, the racism and stuff that they experienced last time.

"But, of course, for me, they showed amazing confidence to step up and because the last time they took one in a shootout it was, of course, here and the memories of that.

"But I'm really happy for both of them to put themselves forward and take really good penalties."

Shaw added: "For me, personally, I've been involved in two penalty shootouts and I've been on the losing side both times so to win one was a big relief for me."

Just like Sancho, Marcus Rashford also buried his penalty as Erik ten Hag praised the pair following the penalty shootout victory.

"From Rashy and Jadon about penalties, we knew that, but we knew also they’re comfortable on penalties, they dealt with it," said the Dutchman.

Man United will be looking to secure their second domestic piece of silverware of the season, having won the Carabao Cup.

Will they beat Man City to claim the FA Cup? Let us know what you think.
