Watch: Al Dhafra Defender Scores A Net-Buster Of An Own Goal

Watch: Al Dhafra Defender Scores A Net-Buster Of An Own Goal

An incredible finish past his own keeper.

I'm a sucker for a belter of an own goal and get a little excited when another helplessly brilliant entry comes around. Just when you thought Phil Jones had scored the best own goal this season, someone else goes and one-ups him.

This time, Al Dhafra defender Yaser Al Jneibi was the culprit in his side's 3-1 defeat to Al Jazira in the UAE President's Cup game over the weekend.

With the Al Jazira striker mis-controlling the ball after being played through, the ball dropped kindly Al Jneibi on the edge of the area, around 20 yards out from goal.

In a truly remarkable couple of seconds, he managed to wallop the ball past his own goalkeeper into the top corner. It was an utterly sublime finish - just a shame it was in the wrong net.

Having watched the clip multiple times, I still can't quite work out just what the Al Dhafra No.23 is attempting, and also how on earth he's managed to pull it off.

While I still maintain that Jamie Pollock's stunning solo own goal for Manchester City will forever be the greatest OG, it's certainly in contention because of how outrageous it is. Jamie Carragher and Richard Dunne would have been proud of Al Jneibi's effort.

The Premier League's two OG kings would also probably have been buzzing had they scored the own goal Chelsea loanee Fankaty Dabo scored earlier this season for Vitesse Arnhem.

Dabo, no relation to Manchester City legend Ousmane, is one of four Chelsea players plying his trade at the Blues' feeder club.

Back in November, in a 4-2 away defeat to Groningen, he scored a stunning long-range OG.

Under pressure from an opponent, the right-back's first touch was heavy and left him scrambling to try and keep the ball in play.

But sometimes, it's probably best to concede the throw-in, as the 22-year old demonstrated here.

What Dabo tried to do was play the ball back to his goalkeeper, but his pass was overhit - and having not spotted that the man between the sticks had come off his line, he lobbed him with an outrageous left-footed finish.

What's the best own goal you've ever seen?
