Man City send final demand to Barcelona over Rodri transfer after Community Shield decision made

Manchester City have told Barcelona to increase their transfer offer for Rodri by €10 million if they want to sign him in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old is set to leave City in the final weeks of the window and has prioritised a move to reigning La Liga champions Barcelona.

It is understood City rejected the latest offer from Barcelona on Friday and have now set their final demands for a deal to be completed.

MARCA claim the two clubs are 'considerably closer' to a transfer agreement, with sporting directors Deco and Hugo Viana reportedly in conversation over concluding the deal early next week.

The report suggests City rejected a deal worth €70 million for Rodri, which would have been worth a guaranteed €60 million, with a further €10 million in the form of various bonuses.

However, it is understood Enzo Maresca's side are demanding a total package of €80 million, with a guaranteed €70 million for the World Cup winner.

It is also suggested that both Barcelona and City are 'very optimistic' a deal will be agreed and that it is only a matter of time before Rodri completes his move to the Camp Nou.

The report adds there is hope the deal will be finalised on Monday, given that both clubs play matches on Sunday. City face Arsenal in the Community Shield in Cardiff, while Barcelona face FC Basel in Switzerland.

Rodri has played final Man City match

It appears that Rodri has already played his final Manchester City match, with the midfielder not risked for their clash with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

The Spain international was not named in the matchday squad at the Principality Stadium and the Daily Mail claims he was not included in the travelling party for the match either.

Maresca has named a strong starting line up for the match, with Gianluigi Donnarumma selected in goal. Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are the centre-back partnership, with Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico O'Reilly in the full-back roles.

Elliot Anderson partners Mateo Kovacic in central midfield, with a front three of Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku and Antoine Semenyo deployed behind Erling Haaland in attack. There was also a place on the bench for Jack Grealish after he spent last season out on loan with Everton.

Speaking before the World Cup this summer, Rodri expressed a desire to return to Spain, seven years after he left Atletico Madrid to move to Manchester.

“I would like to return to LaLiga, yes, of course," he told Onda Cero.

"For me, LaLiga is where I started. I still follow it, not as much as before, but I still follow it. But right now, I am very happy here.

“I have one year left on my contract (at City), there will come a point when we'll have to sit down, talk, and discuss things.”
