A compilation of Jeremy Jacquet's Liverpool debut vs Como is going viral

A compilation of Jeremy Jacquet's much-anticipated Liverpool debut has become a huge talking point on social media, with fans having their say on his near-perfect performance.

The 21-year-old defender, who is widely regarded as one of the most promising young centre-backs in Europe, completed his £60 million move from Rennes to Liverpool at the start of July.

After missing the second half of last season with a knee injury sustained while he was recovering from a shoulder injury, Jacquet missed recent friendlies against Wrexham, Leeds United and Monaco.

But after working hard to prove his fitness ahead of the new campaign, the centre-back was finally handed his unofficial debut on Sunday, a 45-minute outing against Cesc Fabregas' Como.

It was an afternoon to remember for Jacquet, who was serenaded with the chant "Ooooooh Jeremy Jacquet" after just 16 minutes.

In fact, he was Liverpool's standout performer during the 2-0 win, showcasing composure on the ball alongside Virgil van Dijk, as well as impressive recovery speed when one-on-one with his opponent.

The France under-21 international even managed to find the back of the net just before half-time.

Fans were full of praise for the young centre-back, with one saying: "One of the most impressive debuts I have seen in a very long time; winning his duels, reading the game with ease, a Rolls Royce with the ball at his feet. Effortless physical specimen, always looks in first gear."

A second wrote: "We really struck gold with Jeremy Jacquet," and a third commented: "Jeremy Jacquet has had the best first half I’ve ever seen any player have in a debut game. Unbelievable."

A fourth added: "Can’t remember a Liverpool debutant make such a strong impression in their first 45 minutes. If this is anything to go by on what’s to come, Jeremy Jacquet doesn’t really have a ceiling. He will be worth every penny."

Jacquet, who is the tenth most expensive French player in history following his big-money move to Liverpool, believes he is good enough to flourish at Anfield, despite making just 31 appearances for Rennes.

Iraola is adamant that the young defender can make an immediate impact.

“Jeremy was a player that I knew very well, even before signing for Liverpool," he said last month. “Still being young, I think he has all the tools that we will need for that position.

“He also came into the last months of the [past] season with a shoulder injury, but he is fully healed. He has already been training with the under-21's. He’s ready to go from the beginning.”
