Liverpool star's agent forced to speak out after Man City bid reports

The agent of Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been forced to issue a public statement amid reports that Manchester City have been exploring a surprise bid to sign him.

Mac Allister has recently returned to training at Liverpool after his mandatory break following World Cup duty with Argentina.

The 27-year-old had a difficult season at Anfield last season as Arne Slot's side slumped to fifth place in the Premier League table, despite entering the campaign as reigning champions.

With Andoni Iraola now in charge, and with no changes to the midfield area in the transfer market, Mac Allister will have been one of the players the Spaniard would have looked towards as being a key part of his plans.

But talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs reported earlier this week that the Argentine had been 'mentioned' internally at City as a possible replacement for Rodri, who is still expected to join Barcelona this summer.

However, Jacobs added that no official contact has yet been made and no discussions have been held between the two clubs.

The mere suggestion of Mac Allister to City, though, concerned Liverpool fans, given they are already short on numbers in defence and attack with under three weeks left in the window.

Alexis Mac Allister to Man City clarified

His father and agent, Carlos, has issued a short statement to ease worries by confirming that Mac Allister will be going nowhere this summer.

"Alexis will stay at Liverpool, and we have not discussed any possibility of him leaving the club this summer," he told WinWin.

Mac Allister's team-mate, Dominik Szoboszlai, had also previously sparked worries when he said 'if Alexis comes back' during a press conference ahead of Liverpool's pre-season friendly clash against bitter rivals Leeds on August 2.

But Szoboszlai subsequently made clear then meant to say 'when' rather than 'if', explaining: "That was just my English, guys. It's not if, it's when he comes back. So now I make it clear. Can you post this for me as well?

"He is coming back and he's going to be part of the team as much as I know."

One midfielder who may not be at Anfield come the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season is academy graduate Curtis Jones.

The 25-year-old was reportedly close to a move to Inter Milan in January before ultimately staying put, but the Italian Serie A holders are back in for him again during the current transfer window.

According to Correire dello Sport, personal terms have been reached by Jones and Inter, with the Italian giants now having to negotiate a fee with Liverpool.

It is believed that there is a difference of opinion over potentially inserting a sell-on clause into the deal, with Liverpool keen to make future earnings from the transfer if Jones goes on to be successful at Inter.
