Wrexham's owners have outlined their transfer plans after their summer budget was disclosed following a historic promotion to the Championship.

After a 15-year spell outside of the Football League, the Red Dragons have achieved an unprecedented three successive promotions under Phil Parkinson and a second-placed finish in 2024/25 means they will play in the second tier of English football next term.

The Red Dragons are already ahead of the target set by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney when they bought the club for around £2 million after approval from the supporters in 2021.

Reynolds and McElhenney have put their money where their mouths are by investing into the club and its future.

Although they have spent big on player wages, transfer fees, bonuses and Las Vegas parties, there has been a great stream of income from lucrative sponsorship deals, ticket and merchandise sales and TV money.

The new investment from the New York-based Allyn family for a reported £475.5 million in October has strengthened their financial position even further ahead of what promises to be a huge summer of incomings.

Wrexham have been heavily linked with big Premier League stars like Tom Cairney, Jamie Vardy and Aaron Cresswell, McElhenney has confirmed that they plan to be very busy in adding new players to the squad.

“We’re coming to win, I don’t know I can’t give you dollar figures but I can tell you we are going to be as aggressive as we can possibly be whilst being mindful of sustainability," McElhenney said on the RobRyanRed - Wrexham AFC podcast.

“We have a stadium to revamp but still maintain its character and culture, it’s tricky, so lots to think about.”

Wrexham's transfer budget has already been revealed

Wrexham have already released eight players going into next season - including former Wolves and Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher - and there are sure to be more departures - though significant pay rises handed out for reaching the Championship could make it tricky to move some players on.

But it appears as though there are plenty of funds available for new recruits. According to Football Insider, Wrexham will have around £30m to spend this summer, with reporter Wayne Veysey predicting that the club "will plough serious money in the transfer market".

Wrexham's last season in the second tier was back in the 1981/1982 season, when they finished 21st and were relegated to the third division.
