Wrexham executive director Humphrey Ker has spoken out to address recent rumours that the club could sign several Premier League stars this summer.

After securing their third successive promotion up to the Championship, reports have suggested that Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are willing to splash the cash this summer.

Premier League stars Jamie Vardy and Tom Cairney are just some of the big names that have been linked with a move to the Racecourse Ground.

But now, Wrexham executive director Ker has spoken out to directly address these rumours and confirm the club's plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.

While speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X alongside Dominic Byrne, Ker disappointed Wrexham fans, as he confirmed that several of the big names that the club has been linked to recently are not target for the summer.

When asked directly if Wrexham have signed or were interested in signing Vardy, Ker bluntly shut down the rumours, before doing the exact same when asked about Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.

Somewhat taken aback by the radio host's bold questioning, Ker then revealed that, due to the rising status of the club and owner Reynolds, there will be plenty of transfer rumours this summer that simply aren't true.

He said: “Actually, I should stop doing this, because eventually you might say someone where I have to be like, ‘Yes.’

"No, I will say that obviously one of the things is that – much like Ryan Reynolds – the name Wrexham generates clicks, so we are starting now to get linked with absolutely everybody.

"I’m like, ‘Who?’ I see people, I saw our fans getting absolutely incandescent on Twitter about it. ‘What on Earth are they doing trying to sign this guy?!’ when none of us have heard of him before!”

However, Moyles seized the opportunity to ask the Wrexham director about the links with Fulham captain Cairney, bringing in a question from a fan listening to the show.

The host asked: “Here’s another one for you. Daniel says, ‘Chris, what a phenomenal story the Wrexham one is, but can you please ask Humphrey, with peace and love, to stay away from the Fulham captain Tom Cairney please.’ And that’s from Daniel who is a Fulham fan.”

To which Ker replied: “Daniel, you got it.

"I mean, he’s a brilliant player, Tom Cairney, and I’m sure we’d be very grateful to have him.

"But he is the very specific instance where our fans were like, ‘I’m not sure about this, I don’t know what they’re doing. What does this mean about our transfer thing?’ Like, we haven’t had that conversation yet.”

It remains to be seen exactly who Wrexham will target to help them hold their place in the Championship after securing promotion.

However, Ker's immediate shutdown of the links to Vardy come as somewhat of a surprise after he appeared to be open to the transfer when speaking exclusively with SPORTbible last year.

"There's nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn't be a great Wrexham player," Ker told SPORTbible.

"It's not a name I've had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn't put us off."
