Wrexham 'target' second major Premier League signing after Tom Cairney and it'll be their biggest signing yet

Wrexham are reportedly preparing to launch a bid for another top Premier League player after their interest in Fulham's Tom Cairney was revealed.

Having secured three consecutive promotions from League Two, it is expected that Wrexham will spend big in the upcoming summer transfer window to ensure survival in the Championship.

This led to shock reports that club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were considering launching a club-record bid for Fulham star Cairney.

But now, it appears that Cairney isn't the only Premier League player that Wrexham will look to recruit in the summer, as they've reportedly got their eyes on another player from England's top division.

According to Football League World, Wrexham are reportedly preparing a bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien, who attracted their attention during loan spells being taken in at D.C. United, Middlesbrough, LAFC and Swansea City.

The 26-year-old has only made 17 appearances for Forest since joining them in 2022, but became a fan-favourite player while playing for Swansea City in the second-half of the 2024/25 season, making six appearances.

And it would seem that Forest would be open to allowing the Englishman to leave the club as he is viewed as being surplus to requirements, ahead what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window at the City Ground.

However, Wrexham aren't the only club that is said to be interested in securing O'Brien's signature, as Swansea are keen to bring him back on a permanent basis, while Carlos Corberan's Valencia are also interested.

It's unclear exactly what Wrexham would be prepared to offer O'Brien, but with reports claiming that the Welsh side are considering offering Cairney £50,000 to join, the midfielder can expect a similarly impressive contract due to his Premier League experience.

Who else could join Wrexham in the summer?

Alongside Cairney and O'Brien, Reynolds and McElhenney have reportedly been considering overseeing a massive move for Premier League legend Jamie Vardy, who will be available as a free agent in the summer.

After 13 years with Leicester City, Vardy shocked fans when he announced that he would be leaving Leicester City at the end of the season.

With 341 appearances and 144 goals in the Premier League, the 38-year-old would almost certainly become Wrexham's highest paid player should he join the club ahead of next season.
