Peterborough United forward Bradley Ihionvie took to Instagram to taunt Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham after they secured their place in the Vertu Trophy final on Wednesday night.

It was an evening to forget for Phil Parkinson's side, who took a two-goal lead through Mo Faal and George Dobson in the first half as they looked in control for large spells at the Racecourse Ground.

But after Malik Mothersille pulled one back in the 72nd minute, the League One strugglers sent the game into extra-time and penalties after Ihionvien scored late on.

Posh goalkeeper Jed Steer went on to save spot-kicks from Paul Mullin and Elliott Lee before Hector Kyprianou slotted away his penalty to send Peterborough through to the final at Wembley.

After the full-time whistle, goalscorer Bradley Ihionvie publicly mocked Wrexham and their owner Ryan Reynolds in a now-deleted Instagram post.

As the song ‘Bye Bye Bye’ by American boyband NSYNC played in the background, Ihionvie and his Peterborough teammate could be seen dancing to the tune.

In fact, former Colchester United forward Ihionvien could be heard singing: “Bye bye bye, bye Wrexham, bye Wrexham, sorry not sorry. Bye Wrexham, sorry not sorry. Have fun, watch us in Wembley."

He also posted a sticker of Deadpool, the Marvel character played by Ryan Reynolds, to his Instagram story.

Here's how fans on social media reacted to the scenes.

One said: "You know full well if Wrexham now go up at end of season they’ll do a video like this to Peterborough," and another commented: "They're in a relegation fight btw."

A third wrote: "This is embarrassing, having one of the worst seasons your club has ever seen but celebrating wins against Wrexham who are actually creating history. Lost club and players lol."

A fourth said: "Jeez, that embarrassing!! Wow," and a fifth added: "Now what if at the end of season Wrexham get promoted and says “Bye Bye Peterborough, go back to league two” that’ll be awkward now."

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson gave a no-nonsense assessment of their defeat.

"We've thrown away a chance to go to Wembley as far as I'm concerned," he said. "We were comfortable in the game, 2-0 up and made a lot of changes, I thought the lads did well.

"Two really poor goals to concede. Moments in the game of concentration and seeing the game through, particularly the second one.

"From a game which looked so comfortable for us, to end up not going to Wembley is very difficult to take for us all, but we've got no one else to blame but ourselves."
