Manchester United were furious with Ruben Amorim's criticism of three players, including a first-teamer.

Amorim was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford following his stunning outburst after Man United's 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Sunday.

He leaves his post after 14 months in charge, having arrived from Sporting CP in November 2024.

Amorim was contracted until the summer of 2027, with the 40-year-old in line for a huge payout.

Darren Fletcher will take over on an interim basis and is set to take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.

Man United plan to appoint a permanent manager at the end of the season, with a favourite emerging in the wake of Amorim's dismissal.

His 'emotional and inconsistent behaviour' was a key factor in Man United's decision to sack him, not to mention his refusal to adapt and evolve his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Now, in a new report from The Sun, journalist Samuel Luckhurst claims Amorim angered Man United with his criticism of Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass and Chido Obi.

His comments on academy players Amass and Obi and Dorgu went down badly with the club hierarchy.

Senior club figures were also 'particularly unhappy' with the 1-1 home draw with Wolves last week.

What did Ruben Amorim say about Patrick Dorgu, Harry Amass and Chido Obi?

Man United's big wigs, including director of football Jason Wilcox, didn't take kindly to Amorim's criticism of Dorgu, Amass and Obi

The Portuguese gaffer said 'you can feel the anxiety' whenever Dorgu receives the ball, with the player addressing his former manager's assessment.

Dorgu, who cost Man United £29 million from Lecce in the 2025 January transfer window, was the first data-led signing by INEOS.

Amorim said Amass was 'struggling' on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and highlighted the fact that Obi was not a regular starter for the under-21s.

He later claimed there was a culture of 'entitlement' in the academy.
