Two Premier League clubs are 'closely monitoring' Darwin Nunez's delicate situation at Saudi side Al Hilal, with enquiries being made to intermediaries ahead of the summer window.
Earlier this month, Nunez was removed from Al Hilal's squad list for the second half of the Saudi Pro League season.
The 26-year-old Uruguay international, who joined from Liverpool last summer for £46.1 million plus add-ons, was cut alongside former Arsenal defender Pablo Mari.
Saudi clubs are only allowed to register eight foreign players born before 2003 in their 25-man squads.

"The decision was difficult, but that's the job of a coach," said Al Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi.
"He makes many decisions every day, even in every training session. Nunez and Pablo are good players. I want them in all competitions, but we know the restrictions on registering foreign players."

Nunez, who has scored nine goals this season, appeared to voice his displeasure at the situation on Monday (February 16), when he aimed a message at Al Hilal's ownership during their AFC Champions League clash against Al Wahda.
With his future in Saudi Arabia uncertain following the January arrival of Karim Benzema, it appears a host of European clubs are on standby to pounce.
Atletico Madrid and Juventus are believed to be 'long-term admirers', according to a report from TEAMtalk, which claims both clubs would be interested if the finances were 'within their reach'.
Nunez, who is said to earn around £400,000 per week at Al Hilal, would likely have to take a wage cut if he were to leave Saudi Arabia, but the striker would reportedly be 'open' to doing so.
As well as Atletico and Juventus, intermediaries have spoken to a number of clubs in England regarding a move for Nunez, according to the above report.
Tottenham and Newcastle are believed to have held talks with intermediaries regarding Nunez.

Barcelona are also considering a move for the former Benfica striker, according to Fichajes, although his wage could prove a sticking point. "Any transfer would require a considerable reduction," the report adds.
It is said that Nunez has long been admired by Barca's technical staff.
