Darwin Nunez could be handed a lifeline just hours after Al Hilal made their feelings on the former Liverpool striker abundantly clear.

Following a turbulent three year spell at Anfield, Nunez left Liverpool halfway into his six-year contract in June 2025 joining Saudi Pro League Al-Hilal on a three-year contract in a deal worth 53m euros (£46.3m).

Despite impressing during many of his appearances for the Saudi Arabian club, scoring seven goals and assisting five across 23 appearances, rumours have suggested that Nunez is becoming increasingly unhappy at Al Hilal.

These rumours led to reports that, following the arrival of Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema earlier this month, Nunez was looking to return to Europe, with Turkish giants Fenerbahce linked.

However, the move never materialised and Nunez's situation at Al Hilal appears to only have gotten worse, but things could finally be about to change for the former Liverpool striker.

Since Nunez's arrival at Al Hilal there have been several rumours linking him with a move away from Saudi Arabian, including to Fenerbahce, Argentine side River Plate and even back to Liverpool on loan.

Of course, none of the moves ended up happening and just days after the transfer window shut, Al Hilal decided to leave Nunez has been left out of the Saudi Pro League squad due to Benzema's arrival.

This means that just months after his £40m+ arrival, the 26-year-old will now only be available in the Asian Champions League but not in the domestic league.

However, it appears that the links with a move away from Al Hilal are not going to go away anytime soon, as a new report has claimed that the Brazilian Serie A could offer Nunez a chance to revitalise his career.

According to a report from journalist Ekrem Konur, Rio de Janeiro club Flamengo have identified Nunez as their primary target, especially as the Uruguayan is now seeking an immediate move.

Unlike other leagues, the Brazilian Serie A have their pre-season window from January 1 until the end of March, giving Nunez and Flamengo plenty of time to negotiate a move.

However, the report adds that Flamengo aren't the only Brazilian club believed to be interested in signing Nunez before the window closes, meaning Flamengo may need to move quickly to secure his signing.

As it stands, Nunez's current deal with Al Hilal expires in 2028, with Transfermarkt currently valuing him at €35m.
