Alejandro Garnacho has been linked with a move to a shock club with reports suggesting he is ‘open to leaving’ Man United.

Garnacho, 20, has endured a tough season registering just three goals and one assist in 19 Premier League games.

In December, the Argentine was left out of Manchester United’s 20-man matchday squad ahead of the 2-1 derby win against Manchester City.

However, since then has been reintroduced to Ruben Amorim’s plans, with the Portuguese even praising the player’s response to being dropped.

“Really good,” Amorim said ahead of United’s 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against Spurs in December.

“[He] trained really well. He seems a little bit upset with me and that is perfect. I was really, really happy because I would do the same and he is ready for this game.”

However, he has had to settle for a spot on the bench in recent weeks, with the United boss opting for Diogo Dalot and Amad as his wing-backs due to their work rate in attack and defence.

Now a shock report has emerged, with TBR reporting that they have been “informed” that Garnacho “is open to leaving United” with a potential return to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid in the offing.

Garnacho represented Atleti’s youth side for five years having signed from Getafe in 2015. But United paid £420,000 to sign him in 2020.

The Madrid-born star was previously thought to be one of Erik ten Hag’s favourite squad members and was seen as ‘untouchable’ by the Dutchman.

But United could be tempted to sell him given the fact a sale would represent ‘pure profit’ from a PSR standpoint, with the player seen as homegrown.

United have already seen academy graduates Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood leave the club in recent times with Marcus Rashford tipped to move in the coming weeks.

Even the highly-rated midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has been linked with a shock move to Premier League rivals Chelsea after talks regarding a new contract have stalled.

In December, Spanish outlet Fichajes claimed that Atletico boss Diego Simeone is a "self-confessed admirer" of the United winger.

Argentina-based publication TN, also explained how “Simeone had seen him [during his time in Spain] and knew of his enormous potential: everyone believed that the next season would be the one in which the footballer took off.”

The winger is said to be “frustrated” with life under Amorim. His United contract is set to run until June 2028 and he is valued at €50m (£41.7m) by Transfermarkt.
