Fans think Curtis Jones aimed a brutal dig at Liverpool immediately after Inter Milan win

Liverpool fans felt Curtis Jones took a brutal swipe at them during his post-match interview after Inter Milan came from behind to beat Napoli 3-2.

The 25-year-old joined Inter in a £30million transfer from Liverpool last month and came off the bench at half-time in their 3-2 victory over Napoli.

Jones spent 16 years at Anfield, coming through the academy before establishing himself as a first-team regular with 228 appearances in all competitions. But much like Trent Alexander-Arnold, who became a villain after joining Real Madrid on a free transfer, the midfielder risks doing the same.

Liverpool fans react to Curtis Jones' post-match interview

On Saturday evening, Jones helped inspire an incredible second-half comeback from Inter against their title rivals. Matteo Politano and former Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund initially gave Napoli a two-goal lead shortly after the break before goals from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez (2) helped turn the game on its head.

Martinez scored a stoppage-time winner to steal the headlines, only days after Arsenal chased him in the transfer window, while Jones earned plaudits for his influential midfield display.

The Englishman completed one key pass, 89 per cent of his passes (31/35), and won four of his seven ground duels in a dominant final half-hour from the hosts.

Jones was praised for changing the game in the engine room with his energy and ball-playing qualities, but his post-match interview caused a stir among Liverpool fans.

They felt he took a swipe at supporters when he stated: "I just feel at home with the lads. Since the first day, they've been unbelievable, and so I can just be myself. Of course I've got a point to prove but I know that if I'm just myself, the lads will like me, the staff and the fans as well.

"I've been allowed to just go and be me and just enjoy the game and not feel like I’ve got to prove anyone wrong. I feel like the lads already know what I’m capable of."

Reacting to the comments, one fan wrote: "He always says stuff like this; come the end of the season, and he acts like everyone has turned on him."

"This is straight out of the CJ playbook though. When Slot arrived, he was all, 'This suits me much better', subtly digging at Klopp. The same happened with Slot. His issue is that he eventually falls out with his superiors," another pointed out, referencing that Jones has a history of digging former managers out.

"Still the same egotistical player... I, me, I, and a bit of me, cos I look in the mirror and see prime Messi looking back... team game fella always was and always will be good luck to u n ur ego hope it all works out for ya," a third claimed.

"Not good enough for Liverpool, end of story, and he's a waffler who thinks he's better than he actually is," a fourth brutally said.

Curtis Jones hits back at 'boring' Serie A stereotype

Jones has taken to life in Italy like a duck to water and has already proven his worth to Cristian Chivu from the bench.

The all-action midfielder will now be pushing to start in Inter's showdown against Real Madrid on Tuesday after impressing in the league.

“Some people say Serie A is boring, and the Premier League isn’t, but you didn’t see that today," Jones said in response to those who label Italy's top division 'boring'.

"There are great coaches here and so much tactics. Today was a beautiful match with plenty of chances, and the coach made several tactical adjustments that helped us win. Italian teams never surrender; it was a real spectacle.”
