Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's latest goal for Deportivo has everyone talking as he matches incredible record

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his fine start to life at new club Deportivo La Coruna by netting a superb goal in their 3-2 win at Villarreal - and it has left everybody stunned.

Aubameyang, now 37, returned to Spanish football in June after leaving Marseille to sign for newly-promoted Deportivo.

He previously had a short but successful spell with Barcelona in 2022, where he scored 13 goals in 23 matches before being sold to Chelsea.

The Gabonese striker has picked up exactly where he left off, taking his goal tally to four in four games with his hat-trick against Villarreal.

He started by assisting fellow forward Cruz Luismi to make it 1-1 after another ex-Arsenal forward, Nicolas Pepe, had made it 1-0 to Villarreal.

The hosts took the lead through Adama Traore's unfortunate own goal, with the Spaniard having come on as a second-half substitute.

But Aubameyang turned the game on its head in the space of nine minutes. In the 79th minute, he played a key part in Deportivo's second goal by assisting Zakaria Eddahchouri to make it 2-2.

And then he struck what proved to be the winning goal, capitalising on a misplaced pass in midfield before firing the ball beyond goalkeeper Luiz Junior and into the bottom left corner.

But it was the manner of the goal which spoke volumes. Aubameyang was only just inside the opposition half when he latched on to the misplaced pass, and ran nearly half the length of the pitch with the ball before composing himself for the finish.

He started his run while behind Villarreal right-back Alex Freeman, but his turn of pace meant that the American international eventually had little chance of catching up to him.

Aubameyang was formerly one of the fastest players in world football and fans have been left surprised that, even at 37, he has barely lost any of that searing pace.

"Bro scored and did a front flip after playing for 88 minutes at 37 years old lol," one wrote.

"How is he still so fast?" another simply asked.

"Damn he still got some pace," a third wrote.

A fourth stated: "I've said it many times but Aubameyang will go down as one of the best goal scorers of his generation."

No player in Europe's top five leagues this season has more goal contributions than Aubameyang, who has six - four goals and two assists - to his name. Barcelona's Raphinha and Rayo Vallecano's Sergio Camello also have six.

Barcelona fans suggested the former Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund striker could still do a fine job for them this season, given they decided not to sign a natural centre forward during the summer transfer window.

Last year, Aubameyang admitted that he made a 'huge mistake' in moving to Chelsea in the summer of 2022, having initially believed it would work out.

He scored just three goals in 21 appearances for the club and spent a single season at Stamford Bridge.

Appearing on a podcast hosted by former Arsenal Fan TV member Troopz, he said: "It was a huge mistake to go to Chelsea. At that time, I was going through a bad spell at Barca. My house had just been robbed and Barca needed to sell a player, either [Memphis] Depay or me.

"The only offer on the table was from Chelsea. I accepted. I would go for my family, even if it was to Chelsea.

"I believed it would work out well. [Olivier] Giroud went from Arsenal to Chelsea and had no problems, but with me it was different."
