Major Man City 115 Charges Update Drops With Verdict 'Imminent'

A legal expert has offered his thoughts about the alleged rule breaches by the Premier League club.

A legal expert has revealed when he believes the verdict from the hearing into Manchester City’s alleged financial rule breaches will be made public.

The hearing into Man City’s alleged rule breaches began in September 2024 and lasted around ten weeks, taking place in front of an independent commission.

The 115 charges – some reports suggest the number is closer to 130 - are alleged to have occurred between 2008 and 2019, with the ten-time English champions accused of 54 counts of failing to provide accurate financial information, 14 counts of failure to provide accurate details for player and manager payments, five counts of failure to comply with UEFA’s rules including Financial Fair Play (FFP) 2013-14 to 2017-18, seven counts of breaching Premier League’s PSR rules 2015-16 to 2017-18 with the remaining 35 charges related to failure to co-operate with Premier League investigations between December 2018 and February 2023.

Manchester City Football Club have denied any wrongdoing and claim that their defence is supported by an ‘irrefutable body of evidence’.

So, as we approach the end of 2025, when will an official verdict be made public?

Despite head coach Pep Guardiola saying that he expected to learn the outcome “in one month” back in February 2025, no such verdict has yet been made public.

However, according to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, figures at the Premier League are reportedly bracing themselves amid ‘growing murmurs’ that the decision is expected ‘this month.’

The date is yet to be confirmed by any official parties.

Meanwhile, legal expert and financial advisor Stefan Borson explained how he thinks a verdict is “imminent” when he spoke on talkSPORT.

“[Both parties] have not had the decision of the panel as of yet,” Borson said.

“I think after ten months… I do think now there’s no real excuse for a further delay. Even if they were busy on other matters… on any basis, ten months is enough to produce a very, very detailed four- or five-hundred-page decision on this case.

“And I think it is imminent… I do think there’s a very good chance it will be out in the next international window. And I really can’t see it going into 2026. I think it is almost out.”

If City were found guilty, it is possible that punishments would include hefty fines and points deductions and there could even be complex compensation claims from as many as 29 clubs.
