A new update surrounding Manchester City's 115 charges has been delivered.

Back in February 2023, City were first accused of breaching financial rules set out by the Premier League. City have denied any wrongdoing throughout the entire process.

A hearing into the case began in September 2024 and concluded in December of that year.

Since then, City and the rest of the Premier League have been waiting for the verdict.

Leading sports lawyer Maxime van den Dijssel of Brandsmiths previously claimed that it is "common" for the process to take such a long time.

Now, it has been claimed that the decision has been delayed due to the uncertain future surrounding Premier League chairwoman Alison Brittain.

As per The Independent, via the Manchester Evening News, several top-ranking Premier League officials have been in contact with club executives to decide on whether Brittain should be given another three-year term.

It has been suggested that these views are 'being shaped by the progress of the case against City, with Brittain thought to hold considerable sway'.

The Daily Star claimed that the debate surrounding Brittain has 'intensified' and that the outcome of the case could influence decisions from the clubs.

It is believed that 'some high-ranking officials stated that it would be 'absurd' to form such a pivotal opinion before the case is settled'.

Speaking about the case earlier in the year, Premier League CEO Richard Masters said: "I can't answer that specific question. What I can tell you about is the system and how it works.

"I mean, it's an independent judiciary, essentially. So once the allegations, the charge has been put forward, they go before an independent panel, which is independently selected, and they are then in charge of the process and its timings."

He added: "They hear the case, they decide the outcome, and we have no influence over that, over it or its timing. And that's right, if you think from an independence point of view, that there is independent people making those decisions, and we just have to be waiting.

"My frustration is irrelevant, really. I mean, I just have to wait, and legal processes rarely take less time than you anticipated, but we have to be patient."
