Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard didn't hold back when replying to Sir Alex Ferguson claiming that he wasn't a top player.
After committing his entire career in England to boyhood club Liverpool, captaining the side to glory in the legendary win over AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final, Gerrard is widely considered as one of the Premier League's best.
The legendary midfielder spent 17 years at Anfield, scoring 120 goals and assisting another 92 in 504 league appearances, before leaving to join LA Galaxy for the final 18 months of his career.

However, it appears that not everybody holds Gerrard in such a high regard, as Manchester United icon Ferguson once revealed that he doesn't view Gerrard as a 'top, top player,' causing outrage online.
Writing in his 2013 autobiography, Ferguson admitted: "I’m one of the few who felt Gerrard was not a top, top player.”
Shortly after the release of Ferguson's 'My Autobiography,' Gerrard was asked how he felt about the comment during an appearance on the The Clare Balding Show.

“I went on trial at Manchester United when I was 13 and had a letter off them wanting to sign me on a seven-year deal," Gerrard revealed.
"I’m a huge fan of Alex Ferguson and what he’s done in the game is fantastic, that’s the reason why he’s sold that many copies in the first week.
"I was genuinely a little bit gutted when I read that, the reaction of the papers, when he said I’m not a top, top player. But I won’t lose sleep over it, everyone is entitled to their opinion."

The former Liverpool captain went on to reveal that Ferguson made another attempt to bring him to Old Trafford, adding: "He tried to sign me in early 2002-03, he tried to sign me again to play for United.
"I obviously refused, so I can’t really take it to heart too much. But I’m a bit gutted because I’m a big fan of his."
Of course, Ferguson's clear desire to sign Gerrard both when he was a teenager and again early in his senior career suggests that, at least at one stage, he held the Liverpool captain in high regard.
However, with players like Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick all playing for United during Ferguson's reign, it's safe to say that he probably wasn't too disappointed with his options in midfield.
