Sir Alex Ferguson has 'made his feelings clear' on Alejandro Garnacho amid Ruben Amorim's decision to sell Man Utd winger

Garnacho looks set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson made his feelings clear on Alejandro Garnacho prior to reports that manager Ruben Amorim wants the Manchester United winger to leave the club.

The Athletic claimed on Saturday that Amorim told Garnacho to find a new club after the 1-0 Europa League final defeat to Tottenham.

The Argentinian winger described United's season as 's**t' in a post-match interview, and the Manchester Evening News report that there are concerns over the 20-year-old's attitude.

Furthermore, it is claimed that social media posts from his brother have not gone down well with the club's hierarchy.

Garnacho arrived at United from Atletico Madrid's youth team in 2020, and was promoted to the senior squad by Erik ten Hag towards the end of the 2022/23 season.

He scored in United's 2-1 win over Manchester City in the 2023/24 FA Cup final - a result which effectively kept Ten Hag his job until the Dutchman was sacked last October.

After the final, Ferguson was asked by TikTok star Jamal Niaz, in a rare interview about United's current squad, about the impact of Garnacho and fellow academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo.

"It's the foundation, isn't it?" he began. "It's the heart and soul of Manchester United has been since the days of Sir Matt Busby, who started the whole process of trusting young players playing.

"They're young. What they're showing at the moment, the composure and confidence to play in the first team and not be daunted by it.

"In a way, it shows you the kind of courage they have. It's a distinction in human beings, some have the will to be that [fearless at a young age]."

In the 12 months since then, it could be argued that Garnacho's development has not advanced as quickly as United would have liked.

As for Mainoo, who also scored in the FA Cup final and was one of United's key players under Erik ten Hag, the midfielder has struggled to fit in to Amorim's system at Old Trafford.

It could be that both players will play their football away from Manchester next season.

The Guardian reported in March that Mainoo planned to reject a new contract offer from the club and was open to playing abroad.

Earlier this month, however, Fabrizio Romano claimed that there are no concrete ongoing talks over the player's future at the club - though he is yet to commit to extending a contract which expires in 2027.
