Dutch Media Rub Salt Into Wounds With Brutal Arne Slot Verdict After PSV Loss

Liverpool lost by three goals again at Anfield against PSV in the Champions League

The Dutch media have issued a damning verdict on Arne Slot after Liverpool fell to a humiliating 4-1 defeat at home to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Liverpool's woes continued on Wednesday night as they slipped to their ninth defeat in 12 games - their worst run since 1953.

Just months after winning the Premier League title and spending £450 million in the transfer market, Slot is now under serious pressure.

Only days after suffering a 3-0 defeat at Anfield against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool were humiliated once again by a team they would have expected to beat.

Ivan Perisic gave PSV the lead inside six minutes after Virgil van Dijk inexplicably conceded a penalty for handball.

Dominik Szoboszlai levelled ten minutes later before van Dijk saw a header cannon off the bar.

But the visitors restored their advantage shortly after half-time through Guus Til before substitute Couhaib Driouech struck a late brace to leave Anfield stunned.

The result has also sent shockwaves through the Dutch press, with Omroep Brabant saying PSV made "mincemeat" of Liverpool.

They added: "PSV emerged fresh from the dressing room for the second half. The Liverpool storm seemed to have subsided.

"Even after the 1-2, PSV still had plenty to do.

"A remarkable achievement; the Eindhoven fans won't be sleeping any time soon.

"Thanks to this victory, a Champions League winter break suddenly seems quite realistic for Peter Bosz's team."

Meanwhile Dutch News labelled it a "second-half blitz" from PSV, during which Liverpool "crumbled."

Eindhoven's Dagblad highlighted the importance of victory "at a struggling Liverpool" on a "magical November evening."

Although PSV currently lead the Eredivisie, their Champions League campaign has been more inconsistent, with victory at Anfield only their second win in five group games.

Despite that, De Telegraaf agreed the Dutch champions were simply "too strong" for the English champions.

They wrote: "PSV immediately put pressure on Liverpool's defence, where many English teams now dig in when visiting Anfield.

"The away fans went wild with joy, drowning out the hushed Liverpool crowd."

Slot now faces a monumental task to turn Liverpool's season around.

They are currently 12th in the Premier League and 11 points behind leaders Arsenal, who have not lost since August.

They have also slipped to 13th in the Champions League group, although they remain just one point behind the top eight, which secures progress to the last-16.

Liverpool now enter a favourable run of fixtures, with a trip to West Ham followed by matches against newly promoted Sunderland and Leeds.

Fail to win any of those games and Slot will be under serious pressure heading into the Christmas period.
