Arne Slot has been told the decision he must make in order to keep his job at Liverpool after suffering yet another dismal defeat.
The Reds looked to bounce back from a dire 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday with another clash at Anfield, this time in the Champions League against Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.
However they made the worst possible start, with Virgil van Dijk conceding a third penalty of the season just minutes into the game with a bizarre handball.
Former Spurs winger Ivan Perisic opened the scoring from the spot before Dominik Szoboszlai levelled matters 10 minutes later.
But more misery was to come for Liverpool as second half goals from Guus Til and Couhab Driouech (2) meant the Premier League champions have conceded at least three goals in their last three games and their wretched run has extended to nine defeats in their last 12 games.
There are a multitude of issues at Liverpool but on Wednesday night, fans blasted winger Cody Gakpo for how he performed against his former side and called for Slot to take him out of the side after another ineffective and wasteful display.
Gakpo frustrated fans of Liverpool on Wednesday. Image: Getty One fan on X fumed: "Cody Gakpo is not a good enough footballer to play for us. He is consistently awful - he may score a tap in sometimes but his footballing ability and brain is diabolical. Slot has to stop playing him."
A second agreed, writing: "Gakpo shouldn’t still be on the pitch."
A fourth added: "Playing the same team expecting something different is insane. Gakpo should be dropped."
A final user asked: "How does Gakpo start week in, week out."
Gakpo signed for Liverpool in January 2023 and has scored 45 goals in 146 appearances in all competitions - including four this season.
Pressure piles on Slot
After spending more than £400 million on new recruits in the summer, Liverpool have experienced a rapid decline and pressure continues to mount on Slot.
He still has a contract until 2027 but the club find themselves in one of their worst ever ruts and talk of a potential dismissal and rumoured candidates will only ramp up.
After the Forest loss, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Slot's situation and revealed that there have been no discussions with any managers.
However, with such a horrific run, naturally the board want to see improvement quickly and "a different kind of results and different kind of performances" as "they expect much more" from Slot.
Liverpool are in their worst run of form since 1950 and on Sunday they travel to West Ham on Sunday having dropped all the way down to 12th in the Premier League table.
After topping the inaugural Champions League table last term, they are down in 13th this time around after five games.
