Liverpool have already been told the decision they must make about the future of Arne Slot after the disastrous loss to Nottingham Forest.

On Saturday afternoon, the Premier League returned following a week off for the final qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.

After Chelsea's controversial 2-0 win over Burnley in the early kickoff, Premier League champions Liverpool were given a chance to take some pressure off what has been a dreadful run of form with a home match against Nottingham Forest.

However, things went from bad to worse for the Reds, as they lost 3-0 to Sean Dyche's team, piling further doubt over the future of title-winning manager Slot.

Liverpool's shock loss to Forest leaves them 11th in the Premier League table and closer to the relegation zone than last season's title rivals Arsenal who currently sit on top of the table.

In all competitions, the Reds have now lost eight of their last 11 games and five of their last six in the Premier League, naturally leading to many fans calling for Slot to be sacked.

However, after the former Feyenoord manager guided Liverpool to the title last season, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes that Slot still has enough credit to force the club to stick with him for now.

He said: "They [Liverpool] need to be patient, Arne Slot deserves that after last year."

Redknapp, who played for Liverpool for 11 years, also noted that the impact of Diogo Jota's sudden and tragic death and the difficulty of adjusting to the summer's new signings could be playing a role in Liverpool's form.

Despite the fact that he now is facing more pressure than perhaps any other manager in the world right now, Slot fully owned up to his mistakes post-match, taking blame away from his players.

"If things go well or things go bad it's always my responsibility," admitted the Liverpool boss.

"We weren't able to create enough. I tried to adjust a few things that didn't really work out. We weren't able to score a goal.

"We are in a very bad spell. It's that simple. We also know in a few days we play Champions League."

Arne Slot: "Keep our head up. Work incredibly hard and try to turn things around. It's been difficult to this until now.

"We have quality players. It's my job to get the best out of them. I am not at the moment. That's why I say it's my responsibility."
