Jack Grealish edging closer to Man City exit as surprise Premier League club submit new offer

Sunderland have submitted an offer to sign Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, with details of his potential switch to the Stadium of Light emerging.

Grealish is one of several players who could leave the Etihad Stadium before the September 1 deadline, and several clubs have shown an interest in the England international throughout the summer.

The Sun revealed at the start of August that Atletico Madrid were considering a move for the 30-year-old, while a return to either Aston Villa or Everton emerged as a possibility for the Man City outcast.

Grealish spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Everton, where he registered two goals and six assists in 22 matches before suffering a broken foot against his former club Villa, ending his season prematurely and his hopes of securing a spot in England’s World Cup squad.

After recovering from his injury, the fleet-footed winger came off the bench during the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and played the final eight minutes of City's late comeback win over Bournemouth in Sunday's Premier League opener.

When asked about where his future lies, Maresca didn't rule out Grealish playing a part in his plans, saying: "He is here and it is my duty to coach Jack and to try to get the best.

"Then it is one more week to go, and we will see what happens. Not only with Jack but also with other players."

But as he's entering the final year of his reported £300k-per-week contract, club sources have left all options open for Grealish, and an exit appears the most likely route.

As reported by David Ornstein on X, Sunderland have submitted an offer to sign the former Aston Villa playmaker, with Man City covering part of his salary.

Ornstein states there is an option for his switch to become permanent next summer, too, when his contract with the Citizens expires.

Grealish joined City from Villa in 2021 for a whopping £100 million and has since scored 17 and assisted 23 in 159 appearances for the club, while winning three Premier League titles, an FA Cup and a Champions League title.

Man City shifting off some of Grealish's huge wage could open the door for more incomings after confirming the signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for a whopping £81.4m.

Maresca is keen on reuniting with midfielder Enzo Fernandez, although Chelsea are demanding an eye-watering £120m for the Argentine superstar.

The Citizens are considering launching a bid for the 25-year-old before the September 1 deadline, as their pursuit to fill the void of Rodri's departure to Barcelona continues.

Chelsea are reluctant to sell Enzo unless they find a replacement, and that could come in the shape of Alex Scott, who has refused a new contract at Bournemouth.

Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett has also said that Man City could move for Scott if they don't capture Enzo, seeing the talented midfielder as a possible cheaper alternative to the Chelsea playmaker.

The 23-year-old has two years left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium and could cost in excess of £80m, having established himself as one of the Premier League's sought-after midfielders.
