England fans all had the same complaint after watching Thomas Tuchel’s side’s 1-0 World Cup warm-up match victory against New Zealand.
England faced the lowest-ranked team participating at the tournament at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday (June 6), with Tuchel opting to field a strong starting XI consisting of Jordan Pickford, John Stones, Marc Guéhi, Jarell Quansah, Djed Spence, Jordan Henderson, Kobbie Mainoo, Morgan Rogers, Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins.
Arsenal quartet Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze did not feature after linking up with their England teammates late following their involvement in the Champions League final.
Despite the gulf in talent on the pitch, England struggled to make their superiority count in the Tampa heat, with several players looking lethargic and wasteful in front of goal before Kane nodded home Spence’s cross in first-half stoppage time to make it 1-0.

Tuchel then switched things up by fielding a completely different XI in the second half, introducing James Trafford, Reece James, Dan Burn, Ezri Konsa, Tino Livramento, Jude Bellingham, Elliot Anderson, Nico O'Reilly, Anthony Gordon, Ivan Toney and debutant Rio Ngumoha, who is not part of the 26-man World Cup squad.
England fans reach verdict
Although Tuchel used 22 different players, very few impressed supporters, with Three Lions fans seemingly reaching the same verdict despite the positive result, as many simply branded England “boring”.
One said: “The way England are playing, it's so passive and boring. Empty stadium, zero atmosphere and horrible pitches. If it's like this at the World Cup, I think I'll have an early night.”
Another added: “England just aren't very good to watch, man. Not just now, but for as long as I can remember. No matter who's the manager, no matter what players, no matter what era – just rubbish to watch.”
A third commented: “No matter who manages England, or what generation of players are playing, England games are by far the most boring matches to watch in all of football.”
Meanwhile, a fourth exclaimed: “The Tuchel hype has always puzzled me. The way people speak about him, you'd think he's one of the game's elite coaches, yet his teams often produce some of the dullest, most uninspiring football you'll ever watch. England are not making it past the group stages.”
A fifth wrote: “I never get excited for England anymore. They've been consistently boring to watch for years. I've hardly given the World Cup a thought. Maybe they'll excite me more this time? I doubt it. Who knows? It will be nice to see some attacking, exciting football.”
A sixth fumed: “So boring! I remember now why I barely watch England play anymore!”
England face Costa Rica in their final warm-up match on June 10 before getting their World Cup campaign underway against Croatia on June 17.
The Three Lions will also face Ghana and Panama in Group L.
