Rio Ngumoha’s future not only affects his current club, Liverpool, but may also have a domino effect on both Arsenal and Manchester United’s summer dealings.
On Friday (June 5), reports emerged linking Ngumoha with a shock move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, with the Bavarians keen to bolster their left flank despite first-choice winger Luis Diaz impressing and helping the side secure a domestic double in his maiden campaign.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported that the 17-year-old Liverpool starlet is Bayern’s main target, despite the Premier League club making it clear that he is not for sale.
Ngumoha, who is contracted to Liverpool until 2028, has been made aware of Bayern’s interest while away supporting Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad in Florida.

The youngster made 31 appearances for Liverpool last term, registering two goals and one assist, with his performances providing entertainment for the Anfield faithful in an otherwise dull campaign under the now-departed Arne Slot.

It has since been reported by German journalist Florian Plettenberg that a potential deal between Bayern and Ngumoha has already “collapsed”, despite a supposed “verbal agreement”, due to Liverpool remaining firm in their stance that the winger is not for sale.
Plettenberg wrote on X: “There were phone calls, meetings and direct talks between Vincent Kompany and Ngumoha.”
After explaining how Ngumoha had become Bayern’s prime target after they missed out on Anthony Gordon, who has joined Barcelona, the journalist outlined the club’s alternative plans.
He then explained how Bayern are now turning their attention to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown and PSV Eindhoven's Ismael Saibari.
Brown, who has been described as “one of the most talented left-backs around” by Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann, has also been on Arsenal and Manchester United’s radar and is valued at between £50 million and £60 million by the German club.
He possesses quality in both attack and defence, having registered the most successful tackles in the German top flight last term with 81.
Brown, who has produced seven goals and 13 assists in 75 appearances for Frankfurt and is contracted to the club until 2030, was included in Germany’s 26-man World Cup squad and is expected to feature at the tournament, having already earned four caps.
United see Brown as an alternative to Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall, while Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde is also attracting attention.
Nathaniel Brown on his future
Brown was pressed on his future last week, with the player maintaining that he is focused on the World Cup.
“Of course I read that [speculation] too, but I want to focus on the World Cup right now,” Brown said. “I'll see what comes after that. But right now my full focus is on the World Cup. I feel great, also in the city. I have friends there. I've really settled in and I'm really enjoying it.”
