Scotland fans are furious with manager Steve Clarke after seeing his post-match interview following the 3-0 loss to Brazil.

Two goals from Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior and one from Manchester United's Matheus Cunha saw Scotland's chances of making the World Cup knockout stages for the first time ever take a major hit.

The bruising result saw Scotland plummet down the table of the best third-placed teams, with eight of the 12 teams to finish second from the bottom in their group progressing to the next round.

As it stands, Scotland sit sixth in the rankings, but with the majority of the remaining teams still to play their final group stage fixture, there is a high chance this could change in the coming days.

Following the match against Brazil, the BBC spoke with Scotland manager Clarke, asking for his thoughts on the result and what it could mean for their progression, and the conversation didn't exactly go well.

"We made it difficult for ourselves. That's it," Clarke said.

"We gave them the goals, we gave them the game they wanted. Disappointing."

And when confronted with the fact that Scotland now face a brutal days-long wait to see if they will make it to the knockout round by the skin of their teeth, Clarke decided he'd had enough and stormed out of the 30-second interview.

"I didn't even think about that. Sorry, I don't even think of that," he said while leaving the interview.

It didn't take long for the interview to go viral across social media, as many Scotland fans claimed it was the final straw for them and that it was time to consider parting ways with Clarke, who has managed Scotland for seven years.

"You can be annoyed, not want to do this immediately after the game before you’ve even spoken to the players. I get that. But this is atrocious," one fan wrote on X.

Another added: "Better managers than Steve Clarke have done these interviews with good grace, win or lose.

"When is the Scottish football media going to call out this guy, with his incomprehensible tactics, lack of preparation (clearly) and deplorable attitude towards his media duties?"

While one claimed: "Anyone who thinks Steve Clarke is still the man for the job needs to give their head a wobble! Qualifying for tournaments is great but turning up and being embarrassed and not even trying is not good enough! Another 4 years of this nonsense."

In another interview following the match, Clarke spoke more honestly about the situation, admitting, 'I think we're going home'.

Although they have qualified for three major tournaments under Steve Clarke, Scotland haven't had the best record, playing nine games with just one win, five points and four goals.

Can Scotland still qualify for the World Cup knockouts?

Despite the backlash from fans following the 3-0 defeat, it's still possible, albeit unlikely, for Scotland to make it to the round of 32.

To do so, Scotland has to outqualify four of the remaining nine groups, with three groups already decided at the time of writing.

Group A has South Korea in third place, but they outqualify Scotland with a superior -1 goal difference, while Group B's Bosnia sit ahead of Scotland due to the fact they picked up four points.

This means that, for Scotland to make it, at least four of the following results need to come in.

  • Group D - Australia vs Paraguay: Australia to win by two or Paraguay to win by four.
  • Group E - Ivory Coast vs Curacao: Ivory Coast win or draw + Ecuador vs Germany: Germany win or draw
  • Group F - Japan vs Sweden: Japan to win by three or more
  • Group G - Egypt vs Iran: Egypt win + Belgium vs New Zealand: Belgium or New Zealand win
  • Group H - Cabo Verde vs Saudi Arabia: Cabo Verde win or draw
  • Group I - Senegal vs Iraq: Draw or Iraq win by fewer than three
  • Group J - Argentina vs Jordan: Argentina win or draw + Austria vs Algeria: Algeria win by three or more, Austria win by one or more
  • Group K - DR Congo vs Uzbekistan: Draw or Uzbekistan win by less than four
  • Group L - Ghana vs Croatia: Ghana win by two or more
