Ranking every World Cup nation’s personalised goal song as England go with Ally Pally favourite

Every nation has chosen its own goal celebration anthem for this summer's tournament.

For a brief moment, it felt like we had been transported to the famous Alexander Palace in London.

After beating Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic with his second attempt from the spot, Harry Kane celebrated England's first goal at the 2026 World Cup as Chase the Sun by Planet Funk rang around Dallas Stadium.

For those unaware, the electronic dance anthem has become a staple of the World Darts Championship, with the tune being blasted out before a scheduled advert break.

And ahead of this summer's tournament in North America, the FA picked Chase the Sun after FIFA asked each of the competing nations to choose a dedicated song that would be played following every goal they score.

Naturally, the song choice was a hit with supporters who attended the game. In fact, they got to hear it four times as goals from Harry Kane (2), Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford sealed a 4-2 win.

So, what other songs are being played when a nation finds the back of the net? A playlist of every World Cup nation's personalised anthem has emerged in a report by HeraldoUSA, so we've decided to rank them.

From a Dutch rendition of the Scottish folk song Auld Lang Syne, to a remixed version of Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, which has been heard on four occasions after the United States' 4-1 win over Paraguay.

These rankings might split opinion but, for what it's worth, my music taste has previously been described as a disgrace. Take from that what you will.

1st place: Austria: Maria (I Like It Loud) - Scooter

As someone who spent much of their childhood listening to Scooter, Austria's decision to pick the song Maria (I Like It Loud) is, in my opinion, a stroke of genius. Clearly, my opinion is shared by many.

A quick look at the comments section of the YouTube video below is resoundingly positive.

One fan wrote: "Not my team but it's so catchy. Shout out to whoever was in the studio," and a second commented: "This song got stuck in my head after Austria beat my country 3-1 today. I started dancing even though I was sad we were losing."

2nd place: Scotland: I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers

The most fitting song on this list by some distance.

After waiting 28 years to make another World Cup appearance, there was only ever going to be one soundtrack to celebrate John McGinn's opener for Scotland against Haiti. It's fair to say the 10,224-day wait was worth it.

"The perfect song," said one fan, while another commented: "The Americans of Boston are forever going to be walking about randomly singing Flower of Scotland, Loch Lomond, Super John McGinn and 500 Miles constantly."

3rd place: Mexico: La Hija del Mariachi - La Negra

Mariachi music is the symbol of Mexico and Mexican culture, so the decision to choose La Negra's catchy La Hija del Mariachi hit was inspired. This might just be the most catchy song of the tournament.

For those unaware, Mariachi is a traditional genre of Mexican folk music that is often performed by a band dressed in suits and traditional sombreros.

One fan commented on the song, saying: "The best one," and another wrote: "Love the Mariachi music for Mexico. So unique to the country."

4th place: England: Chase the Sun - Planet Funk

No bias involved here. A certified toe-tapper that is guaranteed to bring the noise at this summer's tournament.

The FA's decision to pick Planet Funk's Chase the Sun appears to have gone down better than their pick at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when they went with Freed From Desire by Gala.

One fan wrote: "Sporting CP has the same goal song, it's absolutely fire," while another commented: "Oh what a tune."

5th place: Bosnia and Herzegovina: Take Me To America - Dubioza Kollektiv

Warning. If you listen to this song, it'll be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

Featuring the catchy chorus "I am from Bosnia, take me to America", the song became a huge trend after Bosnia earned its place at the World Cup. Sadly, we've only heard it twice at this summer's tournament.

One fan commented on the song, saying: "Salvatore Ganacci would approve," and a second wrote: "We got Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic singing 'I’m from Bosnia take me to America' song."

It was a lengthy process listening to all 48 songs, but we've managed to agree (somewhat begrudingly) on a final list. We can only apologise if your nation features towards the bottom of our rankings.
