England fans in disbelief at drinks prices ahead of World Cup

England took on New Zealand in Tampa last night - and got an early taste of drinks prices.

England fans have been left in disbelief at the prices of drinks ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada this summer.

The majority of matches will be held in the US, including all three of England's group matches.

Thomas Tuchel's side took on New Zealand in a warm-up match in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, winning 1-0 through Harry Kane's first-half header.

Around 27,000 England fans were in attendance for the fixture at the Raymond James Stadium, which is the home of NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During that match, Three Lions supporters got their first taste of just how expensive it will be to buy drinks while they are in the US.

PA's chief football writer Simon Peach shared a photo of the drinks menu at the Raymond James Stadium to Twitter before, during and after the match.

An 'ultra premium double cocktail' is priced at a staggering $26.50, while its single cocktail counterpart comes in at $19.50

There is a choice of frozen cocktails - strawberry daiquiri or margerita - but these also cost $19.50.

A pint of domestic large beer, meanwhile, is $16.75, while premium large beer is slightly more expensive at $18.00.

Perhaps the most eye-watering, though, is the price for a single bottle of Aquafina water - $7.50.

Reacting to the prices, one fan wrote: "$18 for a beer, $200 for a pre-World Cup friendly. Absolutely outrageous and should be exposed as such."

"Wouldn't go anywhere near the place," a second said.

"That water better have come from Niagara Falls," a third stated.

It is worth noting that the prices are not the same across the board at every stadium during the World Cup, with some offering cheaper alternatives.

A Twitter user posted a screenshot of the World Cup menu at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, with some drinks on offer at around half the price as in Tampa.

Atlanta has promised to charge $2 for hot dogs and $5 for beers at the World Cup, though other stadiums have not made announcements yet.

At last summer's Club World Cup, one venue in Philadelphia charged $16.50 for beer, as well as $10 for bottled water, in an indication of what fans can expect at most stadiums.

Where do England play at the 2026 World Cup?

England's first group stage game takes place on June 17, with Thomas Tuchel's side taking on Croatia at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

They then take on Ghana at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Their final group fixture sees them face Panama at the MetLife Stadium - which will host the World Cup final - in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

All three stadiums host NFL franchises and prices could reflect what they charge for those particular fixtures.

According to Fox 5 New York, fans can purchase a beer for $13 at the MetLife Stadium, with the price is $9.71 at the AT&T Stadium and $8.58 at the Gillette Stadium.
